  • Thanks - this sounds like a good deal.
I currently have a TP Link Archer A6 modem - does anyone have experience using this with Contact? It is not specifically listed on their website as compatible - but presumably it is still likely to work?

Yes it works fine on their system.

Just be weary that all of their connections are CGNat and there's no availability to get a static IP address.

      • [immediately exits building]

I'm a contact customer and whilst static IP is preferred, dynamic IP is fine since I can DDNS it, but CGNAT is unusable.

So thanks, this saved me a lot of time looking into it.

        • Why is CGNAT a problem for you? (Not really sure what that is - just trying to work out if it would be an issue for me)

          • @alice12358: I have a local VPN, site to site VPNs and host stuff.

            CGNAT makes inbound impossible.

It's best described as an ISP level home router up the chain, where a single IP comes in but it's distributed to multiple endpoints (households). Outbound connectivity is fine, but inbound needs manual forwarding on a port level to get it to the right endpoint, and the ISP won't do that.

It's a method for an ISP to screw ignorant consumers to save a buck.

You can request for CGNAT to be disabled by calling them after signing up

          • +2

@Martz5: Correct, I did this a year ago when we signed up. Hope it hasn’t changed since then..

          • @Martz5: Sounds risky. Why can't I do it before signing up? What if they say no? I'm now stuck.

Have you got a link to their documentation that verifies this is a guaranteed thing?

            • @danvelopment: You can live chat them and ask. I messaged them on Messenger prior to signing up and they confirmed they could do it

              https://files.cheapies.nz/upload/7731/5719/img_3299.png

You (or anyone else that is thinking of signing up) should message them again today and update us to confirm this hasn’t changed since June

              • @Martz5: Interesting, I'll send them a message.

Urgh, I hate the wording on your image, though.

"We can REQUEST to have it disabled" [which means it can be denied] not "We will disable it"

Edit: Actually no, I won't worry about it. It's no longer saving me time, if there's no hard "You can disable it no questions asked and we'll never change that" it's too risky for me, I'll stick with my current ISP and static IP.

Maybe I'll look into it if they ever firm it up in their FAQ or something.

            • @danvelopment: You can call or chat with Contact and ask for assurance, there is no reason why they won't turn off for you, end of the day only a very small amount of customers request this so not an issue for them.

          • @Martz5: Nope, they don't own the service.

CGNAT is the only service they provide and no static IP.

I left 3 months ago and have no looked back.

        • I just called this morning and they disabled my CGNAT 15 minutes later.

      • Thank you!

      • You can request them to turn off CGNat for your connection.

  • For anyone planning on bundling power and broadband, after you have received your 4th and final credit, make sure to switch to the Broadband bundle deal, which should give you $10 off per month. As far I can see you are unable to take advantage of the bundle deal while this $300 credit deal is active.

Unless you’re on a Good or EV plan then it’s not worth switching as you’ll lose the promotional rates

  • +1

It is good to see that they offer the 100/20 plan for $60. I may consider downgrading to the Lite plan, as the price of their Fast Fibre plan is set to increase by $5 in the coming months

  • I’m currently using electricity, gas, and fast fibre together. I wanted to switch to Lite and get the credit, but the representative said it’s not possible. If I cancel my broadband and sign up again, would I be able to receive the credit? Does anyone know the answer?

    • Yes but only if the account holder changes… speak to contact before you do this though

      • How do you know this?

    • Careful. I'm like you. I changed my electricity plan to get three free hours a night or something, and my broadband price leaped to the rate of the day. Or maybe it was the gas. Or both, I forget. Because the three are bundled, changing one means (apparently) bringing the other two to the current offers, which in that case were not as good as the rates I was on.

Contact were good about it, perhaps because I called BS on it within minutes of receiving the confirmation email, and annulled the change.

The cheaper plan is a nice option though, for those not needing 600Mb/s.

  • Considering if I should drop my Simplicity and Powershop for this

    • Dont, I left them and switched to Powershop and am saving money and using using Skinny for FIBRE on Sparks BNGs which are all native NAT none of the CGNAT crap.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. Bye bye 2degrees!

Fyi for anyone who doesn't have the lite fibre option show up on the website I was able to have the plan added over the phone
