Dishwasher Recommendation, Bosch?

7 years old Parmco( yeah cheapo from developer) died overnight. Suspected the wash pump is broken as it's draining alright.

Contemplated either diy replacing the pump for $200+, or replace the while thing.
Reading previous forum discussion, Bosch seemed to be the winner.

Harvey seemed to have free delivery promotion: https://www.harveynorman.co.nz/whiteware/kitchen/dishwashers…

Or heathcotes seemed slightly cheaper for series 2 but wondering how they fare: https://www.heathcotes.co.nz/products/sms24ai01a-bosch-serie…

Any yarn about this?

Yeah Bosches are good, I have one German made going strong after 10 years.

    • Which one do you have? Is it worth spending more for the series 4/6/8?

      • +4

        I have the series 6.
Higher end models have longer warranties. I would get the minimal amount of features you need

        • I have the same one, so far so good. Very quiet and feel the 6 doesnt have useless features

yeah +1 on the Bosch. Ours is over 10 years going strong too. Would replace with another if that situation happens again.

I used to sell Bosch at Hardly Normal, and you can not buy better - you can buy more expensive, yes, but not better!

    • Does this only apply to dishwasher or in general? I heard Miele is the best?

      • +1

Debatable. Consumer favour Bosch (although they aren't always right, of course!) We have a Bosch dishwasher and washing machine, both twenty years plus and still going strong! Says it all really.

Hi, we used to have a top of the line AEG dishwasher, nothing but problems.
A lovely repair guy who knew its history told us not to get it fixed yet again it was just outside its 5 year guarantee.
He said to replace with a Bosch, he said there are 2 different types of Boschs, 1 made in Germany and another not made in Germany.
He said to get the one made in Germany, it comes with the stainless steel base, floor end side, NOT the one with the plastic part up the sides then stainless steel.
    Our one is a sms6hcwo1a.
Love it, had it since 2023. Would buy it again.
    Hope this helps.

In 2014 we bought a Bosch at Harvey Norman for $1,239 (I keep spreadsheets lol). Still kicking after 11 years. We have bought two Bosch washing machines as well in the past - the first one lasted 22 years. So yeah - Bosch for the win.

+1 from me too on the Bosch.
We have had the Series 6 for over 2.5 years now and had no problems.

  • Oh and yeah anything but Parmco - I know you inherited yours from the developers decisions, but just putting it out there that Parmco is just horrific - although to be fair I am speaking from a cooker/oven perspective, and their inability to meet the requirements under NZ law resulting in fighting to get even reasonably new things fixed etc.
They are cheap for a reason.

I know, that's why i wont replace it with Parmco. All my chatels are parmco (cheapo developer): oven, rangehood, stove tops.

I probably go for Bosch but don't know which one and how much should I splash out.

Another vote for bosch. Ours is 8 years old, never had an issue. We have a German made version, series 6 I think. Much more quiet than anything we had previously, and does it's job well.

  • Have you guys heard of Andoo: https://www.andoo.co.nz/p/bosch-serie-6-serie-6-freestanding… ?

Their price is significantly lower than the big retailer like harvey norman or noels.

Just wondering if something is wrong, what their customer service like; or is it better to try haggle/price match harvey or noels (if possible) and get them instore?

  • We bought a Whirlpool from Harvey Norman last week, and it comes with 5 years warranty. Bosch is just too expensive and we are not sure how long will we stay in this property, apparently the 4 series only comes with 1 or 2years warranty, the 6 series comes with 5 years. We didn't have free delivery last week, but the price of the dishwasher has gone up by $200, FYI

  • Would of liked a bosch but was too expensive to get the non plastic bottom version ended up with a beko which comes with a 5yr wty.

    • Which one that you got and how long has it been? any complaints?

I'd like to get bosch too but its pricing is a bit too much. Either going for beko as they offer 5year warranty too or wait until bosch goes on sale

I have a German made series 6. It's now six years old and works perfectly. If it died, I'd happily replace with another.

Miele is a premium segment of German appliances. Toooo expensive, though absolutely reliable and best quality. (Priced kinda over the roof to me, tbh.)

Bosch will do. More than enough, frankly.

But when choosing/buying, be sure to keep one incredibly important point in mind:
if you don't wanna remove broken glasses, tumblers, and other similar items from the dishwasher, it MUST have a heat exchanger! Absolutely!

Everything else is a matter of taste…

  • Over the last few days been overwhelmed with the models.

Probably "need" to go with Bosch Series 6: https://www.harveynorman.co.nz/whiteware/kitchen/dishwashers… (HN can pricematch Andoo so $1769)

but realistically probably go with beko: https://www.bigsave.co.nz/shop/product/itemno/bekdw16awpld24…

Either that or save up and wait until Bosch one comes down in price on sale, perhaps labour day or black friday and just wash dishes by hand and pay the increased water bill for a while.

Don't really know what features that we need, family of 4 with 2 under 5s and washing pots and pans by hands anyway, usually run dishwasher every 2-3 days. Given that, would you say I'd go with cheapo ones instead (Haier?)

    • I wouldn't as long as you aren't intending to move. Dishwashers last a very long time (apart from our dud AEG). Worth spending extra on them.

      • +1

Asked mrs and she reckons not going to move at least for another 7 years until kid goes to high school.

  • We've had this LG for about the past 18 months, paid $1100 on sale I think: https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/p/lg-60cm-15-place-setting-qua…

Ended up going for this model as the quality of the materials (plastics) and mechanisms on the inside felt better quality/sturdier. As well as being one of the quietest and not having buttons on the front for kids to press.

Would definitely recommend going and looking at them in person, you definitely notice a quality difference in materials and mechanisms across the different brands.

Very happy with the LG, would highly recommend it.

  • We bought a Miele, because an apartment we rented had one and we were impressed. Seven points to know about them, since it seems no one here has experience.

    1. It washes everything flawlessly day in day out(provided things aren't so tight that water can't get in). No need to prerinse or anything like that.
    2. Ours is going on 7 years with 2 washes a day. They design them for 20 years of single washing(so 10 years of double washing, etc).
    3. My MIL bought a Bosch as her brother in law works at Harvey Norman. Regrets it, they are cheap and poorly built in comparison.
    4. Parts availability is amazing. We snapped the filter on our washing machine, and had a replacement assembly from Germany in our hands for $120 in a week.
    5. Go to the Steelfort Shop in Mt Wellington for clearance pricing.
    6. Buy a better model than you think you want. It'll be with you for the next few decades and a few hundred spent now will benefit you for a long time.
    7. Cutlery trays are awesome.
