Nice one, ordered the 4.7l. Use code 15SCRATCHSAVE for an extra 15% off.

20SCRATCHSAVE gives 20% for me.

@MaxPower @bigcheese I purchased the bigger one(33.5cm), however it’s 33.5 length including the handle bar, which is quite misleading. The diameter only 26cm. Did you measure yours?

I never bought this - only commented to provide code.

Hmmm after reading the promotion on the Spotlight page I'm a bit iffy.
It says: "the non-stick coating makes cooking a breeze,"
I have a Cast Iron Skillet, (Frypan), which I inherited from Mum who got it from her Mum. It's about 100 years old I"d guess. Anyway it's effectively non stick because it's so smooth on the frying surface. I don't see the need for any 'non stick coating' on a Cast pan……Does anyone own one of these ? And what's with the coating ?
I must say the temptation is there though. The price is really decent compared to some which are TEN times that price.

Yeah the non-stick coating part is giving me pause too; it looks like it's enameled, which would mean it can't build up seasoning like straight cast iron, and enamel isn't inherently non-stick unless they've added an extra coating of something on top of that

I've used an enameled Cast Iron Casserole like this and when you're cleaning it it's a bit of a P.I.T.A as you can't scour it or the enamel will get damaged. I'd rather 'naked' cast. I must say tho, the prices are really reasonable.

The coating is enamel, its not non stick like teflon but enamel is pretty non stick. You dont season enameled cast iron but it still has the advantages of holding heat like cast iron plus you can cook things that would strip the seasoning off cast iron (like tomatoes n vinegar) i have both and use both for different things.
If you google it theres plenty of sites that show the pros n cons of each

Delivery was the only option available in Christchurch too, although the 20% off code did work for me.

Gemini AI Overview
Enameled cast iron and traditional cast iron cookware have distinct characteristics. Enameled cast iron features a porcelain enamel coating, making it non-reactive and non-stick, while traditional cast iron requires seasoning to prevent rust and sticking. Enameled cast iron is generally more versatile for cooking acidic foods and is easier to clean, but it can be more fragile and expensive than traditional cast iron.
Enameled Cast Iron:
Pros:
Non-reactive (can cook acidic foods), non-stick (easier to cook with), easier to clean, dishwasher safe (though hand washing is recommended), available in various colors, versatile for different cooking methods.Cons:
More expensive, can chip or crack if dropped or exposed to extreme temperature changes, can be heavier than traditional cast iron.Traditional Cast Iron:
Pros:
Durable, retains heat well, can withstand high temperatures, develops a natural non-stick surface through seasoning, generally less expensive.Cons:
Requires seasoning, can rust if not properly maintained, can react with acidic foods, can be difficult to clean, requires more care.Choosing between the two:
Consider your cooking style: If you frequently cook acidic foods or prefer low-maintenance cookware, enameled cast iron might be a better choice. If you prefer high-heat searing and are comfortable with seasoning and maintenance, traditional cast iron is a good option.
Consider your budget: Traditional cast iron is generally more affordable.
Consider your cleaning preferences: Enameled cast iron is generally easier to clean, but traditional cast iron can be cleaned with gentle dish soap and warm water.

In the review someone says he got the frypan for $25

I woulda been keen on the $60 one if i coulda got a code working but neither worked for me

They sent me a $10 off coupon for signup so got one

Did you get one? I’m confused, it’s claimed to be 33.5cm, and it’s not diameter. what is it?

The smaller shallow cheaper one i got is 28cm diameter, the bigger deeper ones are 33.5 (well, i assume they are i didn't actually look)

Very good deals assuming its proper cast iron!
