You're right, I wanted to delete that one (in the link) but I don't think I can, :(

    • uBlock origin lite seems to break the track price button with optimal filtering enabled.

      • That's true, another reddit user pointed that out yesterday, I would have to change the order of events, show the page and events before tracking.

The tracking was kind of a rush job :)

      Nice work!

My feature request if you have time: rather than search by URL, I would love to search for a product by name, be presented with a list of retailers who sell the product (and be able to deselect ones I don't trust/like), and then have it monitor all of them for a drop in price.

    • Great feedback, I really love this idea and we will have this on the top of our feature requests, this would be a major one, although it might take some time for it to be implemented (solo dev :) )
I was implementing this approach to begin with but then had to pivot from it as it would have taken a decent time to scrape each retailer and then group similar items together,

      • this would be a major one, although it might take some time for it to be implemented (solo dev :) )

search for a product by name, be presented with a list of retailers who sell the product (and be able to deselect ones I don't trust/like), and then have it monitor all of them for a drop in price.

If easier to get started, you could ask the user to enter a product code / number / barcode. That way, matching would be very easy and precise.

The downside would be that not all retailer show the manufacturer's code(s), only their own, so it would not work as well overall, and you'd probably have to go with string (fuzzy) matches later down the track, but at least you could build the fundamental logic / code, and then expand it later… not that I know what would really be involved :-)

        • I started with fuzzy search matching for a small subset of data and I also created a tool to manually approve each entry by looking at that fuzzy match, was very time consuming, and couldn't find another way in that short time, I know there would be other options too,

  • Thoughts for the development plan (not complaints!) and queries:

    1) Would be nice to be able to 'login' to the site to see all your price alerts and edit them if you want to.

    2) Without a login / account function, how do I edit or delete an existing alert?

    3) Does it only ever send me one email, or will I get multiple alerts if the price falls below the level I set, then falls again?

    • Thanks for taking out the time and providing these valuable suggestions :)

      1) Login is in pipeline (although sometime in future), reason is: I always use to just create stuff and then it used to stay with me, this time, I have promised myself I would give enough effort on marketing this,
but fair point, having a login and being able to see all tracked items, and edit is a valuable feature, would surely build that,

      2) At the moment, users would be able to just message me for a deletion, (edit functionality would come with login)

      3) It only sends 1 email at the moment, I did think about multiple alerts, but that might annoy the user, what's your take on it?

      • 3) It only sends 1 email at the moment, I did think about multiple alerts, but that might annoy the user, what's your take on it?

I agree that going with just sending the one email is sensible until you have an account login option else, as you say, it could get very annoying.

Maybe you could include a notice in the email that this is the only one the recipient will get, and if they want to get another (say, a further price reduction), then 'click here' (with a link to your site) to create a new one.

Totally, easy one to implement, good clarity to the user too,

    • Good work.
      Well done.

      • Thanks :)

  • Giving it a try. Note that it doesn't seem to work in Opera (after you enter the URL and click track nothing happens). I had to switch to Firefox instead.

    • Hi, Thanks for giving it a go, do you have some kind of a ad blocker installed on Opera? I have had a few users suggesting that it currently doesn't work where users have adblocker installed (that's in the pipeline to be fixed)

      • I thought that might be the case too so I disabled the native Opera ad blocker it still wouldn't work.

        • Hmm, Thanks for reporting that, I will give it a go at this bugπŸ‘

  • How does this differ to Pricespy?

    • Hi, Pricespy does price comparisons of a product from a few different retailers, what we offer is purely price alerts and notifications, so let's say you have decided to buy a product but you can wait for it's price to drop, just set a price alert with us by using the retailer product link (and you can create many price alerts if you want to by using different product links from multiple retailers) and we will notify you when the price drops

      • I understand the notification side, this is something I used on pricespy a lot when it was a feature. However, the price I set the alert to was based on the previous price of the product, it'd be great to have that information available on your site also. Right now I'd have to find previous pricing on pricespy then come to your site to set up a notification.

  • Yeah but I thought you can subscribe to price alerts on Pricespy already? I'm pretty sure I used that feature before

    • They removed thay feature years ago.

  • Could you add Rebel Sports to the supported retailers list please?
