Minisforum Bd795i SE Barebone Board: AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX $600.09 Delivered @ Minisforum

180
NAS30

Long time lurker, first post. This is too good of a deal for me to stay quiet about. Not sure why this product doesn't get talked about more to be honest.

This is a mini-itx motherboard, with a Ryzen 7945HX (a 55W TDP laptop version of the 7950X), and a heatsink all in one (37mm high). Performance is about 10-20% lower than the 7950X though at a much lower TDP. Just need to add a 120mm fan to it. I bought the Arctic P12 Max from Computer Lounge (making it ~64mm high).

It says 383 USD but when you add it to the cart it will automatically apply the code NAS30 for 30 USD off to make it 353 USD. Free shipping & no GST charge (guessing they are absorbing it?)

I bought this aa few weeks ago at $319 US and have been running it for a week now, no issues (so far)

Pros
  • Cheap!!! - A 7950X or 9950X by itself already costs more than this board ($1000+)
  • Fast, efficient, small, quiet. 16 cores, 32 threads up to 5.4ghz.
  • PCIe 5.0x16 slot for GPU
  • 2x PCIe 4.0x4 slots for nvme SSDs
  • iGPU for troubleshooting without a dGPU
  • 2.5Gb ethernet
  • Option to add m.2 2230 key-e wifi/bt card - bought mine (intel ax210) from AliExpress along with the antennas
  • Memory works at 5600MHz
  • Don't have to deal with thermal paste
  • Fast shipping, received in a week after they sent it (2 days). They use DHL.
Cons
  • Only one front USB3 header - no type-c or usb2.0
  • Fan control needs more work (only few options & three preset fan curves: quiet, standard, turbo aka noisy)
  • No SATA ports - I hear you can use the m.2 ssd slots and replace them with sata ports
  • Only 2xUSB3, 2xUSB2.0 and 1xUSB-C slots on the rear
  • Screws aren't labelled but are separated properly
  • No install guide included… had to dig my way through their websites to find it, have linked it below.
  • Realtek not intel for ethernet
  • Warranty/support unknown - I did email them a few times and they've responded positively though. Asked for explanation on some fan settings in the bios and got a powerpoint back explaining it. Bought it at 383 usd but then they dropped it to 319 usd before I got the product and got refunded the difference (after asking them).
  • No upgrade path for CPU, it's built in.

Info on other products
BD790i X3D-US ($529 USD, not really sure the difference between US and AU) - uses 7945HX3D and comes with wifi/ssd heatsink. Performance looks to be similar but with much lower power usage.
BD795m ($337 usd) - mATX version with sata ports, front usb2, must include own cooling solution (LGA1700)

They won't be collecting gst at all because they won't be registered with the ird. Maybe they have sales over $50k/year to nz but they are small fish regardless.

I used to love minisforum but my hx90 pc died after minimal use. They have serious quality issues. My PC had similar issues to this https://www.reddit.com/r/MINISFORUM/s/JFBiewtidn

Their after sales service is poor. I see similar complaints on reddit and on the minisforum discord. Just be aware that on paper the specs are good. But you'll likely end up with a lemon after a little while

  • Gmktec mini pcs are quite good. I got a k8 plus 8945 hs with 32gb ram and 1tb nvme on Ali for usd 495 delivered (825 nzd) a few weeks ago. With an additional $52 cashback from buying through shopback, making effective price only $773. Arguably a better deal since it's an entire mini pc with windows. Also has a occulink port for external GPU.

    • Do you have a link for that please? I can't find it anywhere near that price

      • Yeah price has gone up now unfortunately. It was from the GMKTek official store during their eofy promotion. Beelink has a 8745hs with 1tb nvme and 24gb ram for USD 479 delivered though, which is a pretty good buy. Plus usd 20 for 32gb. 8745hs is identical to 8845 hs without the Ai extensions that nobody uses (apart from Ms Copilot). It's very similar performance wise to 8945hs and too which is theoretically faster but thermals limit performance anyway so in the real world you wouldn't notice much difference. https://www.bee-link.com/products/beelink-ser8-8745hs?varian…. No occulink on the ser8 though but you can get adapter or use usb4 if you want egpu functionality. The igpu is pretty good though.

        • Thanks mate. Much appreciated
