Plenty of time for a free general listing offer still.

Listed something last free selling weekend for what I thought was a very good price, $650 buy now, no other similar items on the site like it and it attracted a lot of watchers, but it's the first thing I've listed on one of these free selling days that hasn't sold, even my $650 fixed price offer went completely unanswered. Cancelled the fixed price offer after 2 days and relisted it for $700 buy now to allow for the fees, and it sold within 2 days.

Trade Me can be a strange place at times.

Sometimes it just comes down to the right person looking at it at the right time. Same with Facebook Marketplace.

        @Wakrak

Yeah tell me about it. I once won an auction on Trade Me for a 2nd hand reproduction NRL jersey that I ended up getting for $17, got it and it didn't fit me (not enough X's before the L) so I relisted it the following week for $1 reserve with a $20 buy now, made it clear that it wasn't an official jersey but a replica with photos of the label and everything, and someone placed a bid because they didn't want to pay $20, and it ended up selling for $430 after 2 collectors got into a very slow bidding war that went on for ages after the listing was meant to close. If the person who I bought it off was watching I imagine they'd be livid!

        • Nice!

          • @Huntakillaz: Yeah, Illawarra Steelers replica jersey, I was more surprised when the guy paid me than I was when I saw how much it sold for! I was expecting the usual "Sorry, but my [insert age of very young child] was playing with my phone and placed the bids, can I cancel the trade?" but no, the guy paid and from his emails sounded quite happy about it. I must admit, I'm still confused by it.

        • That's an impressive gain!

Had something similar last month. Won a large marble coffee table for $1, sold it for $140. Was very happy with the flip.

That happens so often, its weird af

I've always found that, too. Items listed during the free period never sell, but will do when listed afterwards and when Trademe can take their fees.

    • I'm a regular seller of tech stuff for various reasons. I just like to buy and accumulate home lab/IoT stuff for projects. As a result am frequently selling off surplus items.

Trademe free selling days are a total waste of time for me. MP also fails to get eyeballs/traction - I barely get the lowballers dropping by. I have really noticed a downturn since the economy got a bit tight. Sure, water is wet. But when you can't sell a high quality, pristine item for less than a third of the price new, it's an indicator.

I agree you sometimes just need the right person to come by, but that's far fewer and farther between nowadays.

As an example; I cannot sell, for the life of me, a premium 4K WUHD, brand new unopened KVM thunderbold monitor RRP, nearly $4K for $1300 after three separate free selling days. I've had to reset my expectations.

Another side point is I'll have items on TM, and people hunt me down on MP (I don't make it hard), then lowball saying I'll save on TM fees. I'm like dude - It's on TM free selling weekend - nice try.

      • Can you share the brand/model of the monitor? Does it come with the kvm inbuilt or is that separate to the monitor?

        • +1

P40w-20 (D213975P0) 40inch. Yep KVM is built in.

        • It's a cracking productivity monitor. I have two.
