Internet Plan for Single Person?

Moving into a studio by myself and now have to pay for my own internet plan.

I video call a lot and work from home once a week, so need unlimited internet.

Currently I'm at 297.8 Mbps download and 38.6 Mbps upload on a shared plan. I think that will be difficult to beat on an affordable solo plan.

Any cheapies have suggested plans for either fibre broadband OR 5G?

Yep as said jump on a fibre 50 plan and in a few months it gets upgraded to 100/20 for free which is great value.

Will be better service than 5G mobile plans.

  • had a friend who hated 5g broadband using video call, keeps failing, switch back to fibre now

  • try skinny jump. its subdised
. $5 per month per 35gb..fast wireless. free modem
    google skinny jump
    .

    • that's on 4G, that's not exactly "fast" wireless

If you can't get fiber then Mighty Mobile or Rocket as they have unlimited plans and seems to have higher data allowances (others will send you notice once you're above 200-300GB per week)

"Unlimited" isn't really unlimited for many providers as they'll word it in with Fair Use and have some arbitrary threshold amount

Also if you go the Mobile 5G broadband route then check where your nearest towers are using cellmapper.net as that will also determine which providers you can use

  • I would strongly advise going with fiber.

It's simply the best tech around. Low ping, low jitter, No congestion. Unlimited really does seem to be unlimited (I have moved 20+ TB in a month with no issues).

And of course you can use your phone internet as a redundant backup, if it goes down (Hasn't happened to me in a way that can't be fixed by a DNS swap, during working hours over the last few years).

Given you seem cost sensitive, I would just go with the base 100 / 20 plan (unless you need to shift big files around). This is plenty of bandwidth for teams calls etc, meaning things like Ping and Jitter are the most important.

Go here and pick out a deal: https://www.broadbandcompare.co.nz

    $65 / month on a 12 month term with 2 degrees
$60 / month on an open term with simply broadband.

I would buy my own router, rather than renting one.

  • Sky can get you 100mbps unlimited for fiber for around 50pm

    • 100% the best option, on it now and no issues (heavy Internet user)

    • Sky Broadband? I'm seeing $60/month on their site

      • Give them a call they should be able to give you a special discount (which is what they did for me). I dont have sky TV

        • Thanks. How's the speed? Getting good results on Speedtest.net?

@NovaAlpha: They are Vocus (2Degrees, Slingshot) resale so not a problem as far as I can tell.

            • @Zyo: Cheers I'll need to connect once I move in to my place, thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully I can knock them down to $55 as I have family members who are sky members.
