I found this by chance, and I'm happy to make my first contribution here.

Price has been reduced by 80%, unsure on the taste itself but I just snagged 160 servings.

Reviews seem decent.

  • Lol, "Low Sugar", ingredient #1, sugar (Dextrose). Carbohydrates (of which sugars) 3.6g/8g AKA 45%.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't consider something made of 45% sugar as being low sugar.

"High sugar" can really only be "a 1KG bag of sugar" if 45% sugar is a low measure.

Not necessarily. 8g of product is mixed in 500ml of water. After mixing it with water, for each 100ml of drink, there is less than 1g of sugar. In comparison, coke has around 10g per 100ml. So while in powder form it has a much higher sugar ratio.

      • -1

Sure, in that case a 1KG bag of sugar is also low sugar. Just mix 4g into a 500ml of water.

Boom, that bag of sugar has less sugar than coke.

Eat a bunch of pure sugar candy with a sandwich, low sugar candy.

Pure sugar is not supposed to be consumed on its own, sure adding 4 grams of it to water would make it contain less sugar than coke, however the mixture you made would not be very sweet at all. This product however, contains artificial sweeteners, which keeps the final product sweet without having a lot of real sugar.

If you think that less than 1g of sugar in 100ml of liquid is too high, please tell me what foods you consider to be low sugar.

The “low sugar” claim on the product means after it has been prepared according to instructions, similar to how 99% sugar free vitasport drink powder is not 99% sugar free in powder form but after mixing with water it is.

@Pandyplaz2: I consider the claims on the merits of the product itself unless they specify otherwise. That 99% sugar free claim is equally as stupid.

As well as the fact that the intended product is not 99% sugar free, it's 100% sugar containing, its just 1% sugar by volume. If their 99% sugar free claim made any sense it would be better written, "Makes a low sugar drink"

Wine is not 87% alcohol free. And spirits aren't 60% alcohol free. They're 13 and 40% alcohol respectively.

You couldn't take a single millilitre of liquid out of that 750ml and find there's no sugar in it, but if it were 99% sugar free, then you should have a 1/100 chance of getting a ml of fluid containing sugar.

As for this product if "low sugar" is based on dilution then literally anything can be low sugar, including literal sugar, as long as you write a method of preparation on the bag.

If they had said, "Makes a low sugar drink" I wouldn't be complaining, but the product itself is not low sugar.

As for your sweetness thing, you could put 70% sweeteners in with your 4g of sugar, that would be very sweet. Boom, bag of sugar is low sugar. And the drink you make is very sweet. Why do the mixing rules only have to require water? Why can't you specify other products you need to add to get to the stated figures?

1KG bag of sugar - 99% sugar free
Preparation instructions, just mix 4g of sugar with 100ml of water and 300g of artificial sweeteners.

@danvelopment: The “low sugar” claim refers to the drink after it’s mixed with water, not the powder itself, which is why the sugar content per serving is low. I agree it would be clearer if companies specified the claim was after using the preparation process, but the product works as intended when diluted. The artificial sweeteners help maintain sweetness without all the sugar. The mixing instructions tell you too add water because that is the final product which you are meant to consume, similarly, sugar can be used to sweeten many drinks and foods, however, because there is no single food it can create, the product it creates can be either high or low sugar, depending on how much you use, whereas this product is intended solely to create a drink, with 500mls of water and 8g of powder.
