  • Genuine question because I see it's 90 min appointments and it's vital to train students, but out of interest, how do these differ from the free hearing tests at say, Bay Audiology?

    • I completed it. Was an awesome experience. I'm pretty sure they started with a similar 20 minute check on Bay Audiology.

      https://www.bayaudiology.co.nz/all-our-hearing-services/free…
"The check is designed to take 20 minutes, and all you need to do is press a button each time you hear a sound.

But it also involved a different test which is probably what Bay Audiology call a "Diagnostic hearing test" which is a more objective test.

Overall my experience was great. Free parking while you take the test, minimal waiting and lovely student who will benefit greatly from hands on experience.

      • Thanks, that makes sense. If only they were in Chch :/

    • The free checks from Bay Audiology only look at a few frequencies between 500-4000 Hz and only air conduction. This will be a full diagnostic assessment between 250-8000 Hz including tympanometry and bone conduction as well as speech testing.

      • Ah, interesting. A family member is getting a tympanogram in a couple of weeks so I'm interested to see what's involved.

  • OP - any REM tests for $10?

  • Dead link has been removed? Is this deal still on?

  • Thank you for your question.
The main difference between the diagnostic hearing test conducted at the University of Auckland teaching clinic and a hearing test at Bay Audiology lies in the purpose and scope of the assessments.
At the University of Auckland's teaching clinic, diagnostic hearing tests are primarily performed as part of educational training. These tests are carried out by students under the supervision of experienced clinicians. They often include comprehensive assessments—beyond those typically offered in standard hearing tests—to thoroughly determine the nature and extent of any hearing loss.

  • yes deal is still on until the 21/08
