Preparation for Samsung Black Friday Sale

Hi there,

I am keen to buy a new z fold 6 (or flip 6), hopefully from Samsung assuming they will be doing some big black friday sale.
I have been reading all the comments about stacking different discount codes, trade-in boosts and etc, but not sure what will be the best and cheapest way to stack discounts strategically.

I am currently using samsung phone A55, I could trade that in or I also have some old samsung phones in drawers I could trade-in (A53 and S10).
I have never bought anything off samsung website directly - I believe there's some new member and app 10% discount codes? Should I sign up and download app now for this? or wait until there's confirmed sale?
I am also a public servant so I do have a government work email address I could use in EPP? I have never tried EPP either, so not sure how it works either, but reading some latest updates, EPP no longer allows you to stack codes?
I also have AMEX card, so that extra $100 discount over $500 would be handy.

Is there anything I have missed? Any kind recommendation on what I need to do now to prepare for the sale?

I know PB tech currently has flip 5 on sale for $897 and I can get this by duty free for $826.80. Should I grab this deal? or is it definitely worth waiting for a better black friday sale deal directly with samsung for flip 6 or fold 6?

Look forward to hearing some good advice from our smart cheapies fellas!

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals.

  • Not sure where, but I think I have seen something mentioning Amazon doing Samsung deals for Black Firday, so that might be an option.

  • If you are interested in the trading and wait for the trade-in boost, you could try and use one of your old phones. Generally you will get less than if you sell them privately, but the goal is the trade-in boost value that you'll get from them.

For the discount, the 10% first time app would be automatically on the app if you haven't made any purchases (I think it's on your account, but don't count me on this) while the member 10% discount would be on your Samsung members app which is on your samsung phone.

    • Depending on the phone the trade in value is pretty close to what you could get selling it somewhere like trademe.

  • Samsung has Eairly black friday deals advertised now:

    General store: https://www.samsung.com/nz/offer/black-friday/

Z flip 5 gets a $500 trade in bonus (plus a free case and screen protector film)

    Z Flip 6 gets a $100 trade in bonus (plus a $500 watch and a $70 case)

on the educational store (assume this is the same as EPP?)

Z Flip 5 gets 25% off RRP, Case + film + $100 trade in bonus

Z Flip 6 gets 25% off RRP, Case + Film + $200 trade in bonus + half price Samsung care plus

I know you get a 10% off the first student purchase, and guess this is the same with EPP & general store. If so this gets applied automatically in the checkout.

Samsung members code is something different you get from the Samsung app or chat and apply in cart.

No real way of knowing what is going to work without trying it.

  • You need to video your old phone slowing imei and working condition and screen etc and also video/photo proof that you are sending it in. I personally didn't have an issue but there is a huge thread on here about people having problems with Samsung tradeins etc.

    • I didnt have any issues either - Just took photos, videos of the old phone etc.

The status link didnt really update accurately though. Sent it on the 2nd, got an email on the 12th saying trade accepted.

  • I would prefer not to have to trade in my old phone to get a new one, as I like to keep my old phones, and can still use them with another sim. So a bit of a pity their best deals seem to require a trade in. I am currently weighing up getting an iphone 16 or a galaxy s24 ultra and think ATM the iphone offers better value over its life comparing the costs, unless Samsung come out with a really good deal.

  • Just a reminder if you have a amex you can get an extra $100 off.

  • Just got an email for a flash sale for the Z Fold 6:

20% off and $650 trade in bonus.

    Code: FLASHNOV

    For anyone interested

  • so it looks like FLASHNOV, UPGRADEZ/S24 codes are back, available till tomorrow morning. there seems to be a discount limit on flip and fold though, as when you put in both codes, discounts don't seem to add up where as they add up for S24 series. I can get mid 300 for S24 (no AMEX extra discounts though) or about 690 for flip6 (after AMEX discount as well).

      What about s24u?

Is that on epp or normal site?

    • FYI sing flashnov code removes the free watch 7 and buds 3 for the online Z fold deal

  • I’m looking to buy one of the Samsung tablets S series but have no idea what the Black Friday deals were like before..

Does anyone know if Early Black Friday deals have been better than the actual Black Friday deals in the past?
Not sure if I should buy now or wait a couple more days!

    • I've been eyeing up tablets for a while, there hasnt really been a good deal - decent discount through EPP but nothing like the phone discounts.

    • Which tablet were you after?

Depending on if you have a trade in or not, can get the S10+ for fairly cheap with the current black friday deal. Offering a $300 trade in bonus.

As I understand it, the Samsung member's code might take a few days to arrive so it's worth signing up now on the Samsung member. Especially in case they do another 30% off. If you don't have a Samsung device, now is the time to try and get a 10% off code from Samsung store chat/email/phone. Mine seems to have lasted at least a month.

The rest you're probably fine signing up before buying. That said since Samsung site is often buggy and they also can have stock issues, it might be worth signing up sooner than later. Especially for the EPP.

Note that EPP deals are not always posted here, technically Samsung says you're not supposed to talk about them or at least the prices from EPP. So not everyone is willing to post them. (Also because only some can get them.)

Also while others have been fine with the wrong IMEI, I'd suggest you keep a record of the IMEI of devices you might want to tradein somewhere you can access at all times in case you need to do it when away from home or whatever. Likewise your codes should be accessible.

Samsung's Black Friday deals are out now >> https://www.samsung.com/nz/offer/black-friday-blowout/

Seems like the FLASHNOV, UPGRADEZ/S24 deals were better than these black friday ones. ( I haven't thoroughly check but just tried the FLASHNOV and UPGRADEZ/S24 and they no longer works.

    • yeah, so guttered about this.

      • Well I think it was always expected the general Black Friday sale would be worse than the flash sales. Question is whether their next flash sale will be the same. I'm personally thinking they'll do one around the time of actual Black Friday so will have to see what that's like. Since UPGRADEZ/24 seems to have stopped working it might be worse. And even if it comes back, if the next flash sale is like the second 24 hour of the last FLASHNOV it might not work with UPGRADEZ/24. OTOH if they do 25% discount or something with the same tradein bonus it might end up better for many items.

Also possible they'll go back to what they were doing for FLASHDEC even if they don't do anything that soon i.e. we'll have to wait until well after Black Friday but get some decent again. So I mean back to 15% but with normal stacking etc. So it won't be as good as the first 24 hour of the recent FLASHNOV but still not too bad. I mean they did like 7 flash sales with the 15% and UPGRADES24 stacking etc so you've got to think they knew how it was working and had decided to allow that.

        • Not sure if they update the T&C recently but according to it, the 'UPGRADES24/UPGRADEZ' code has this clause:

Offer is available in conjunction with select online promotions (not including Black Friday promotion), not with other voucher codes.

Personally I'm hanging out on the FLASHDEC or Boxing Day/Christmas deal when the current deal ends on the 5th Dec. If nothing good, probably wait for the S25 to come out.

        • It's so annoying that the whole Black Friday sale thing is basically all over the place, spread out to whole of the November. There is a general conception that Black Friday sale should be the biggest sale, but it just seems that they are not clearly the best deal. This is unless of course as you said, if Samsung decides to do another flash sale on the actual black friday next week, but I'm not getting my hopes up too high. I am waiting for Flip6/Fold6 deal as they weren't stacked with UPGRADEZ (it worked with FLASHNOV, but the total discount price was same, unlike S24 deals). I have my fingers and toes crossed!!

          • @inmeltingpot: IMO it's quite common even in the US that stores have very spread out Black Friday sales nowadays and the deals are not necessarily that good. It's mostly the short sales and flash sales whether on Black Friday or another time that have the best deals. In the US it tends to be much more on Black Friday. Here in NZ it can be a bit more complicated since Black Friday is so disconnected from anything in NZ.In the particular case of Samsung, I think it was fairly expected though given the way they'd been heading that they'd do a long Black Friday sale with fairly ordinary discounts. The best deals at least for the high end phones have been with their flash sales rather than their regular sales whatever they called them (anniversary, pre Black Friday, Black Friday). Someone else did point out that most of their flash sales haven't been tied to a particular event or date although they did to the Labour Day flash sale. It remains unclear if they'll do another flash sale for Black Friday. They might do probably starting on Black Friday. If not perhaps it'll be Cyber Monday or something. Cyber Monday also happens to be in December which means it'll probably be FLASHDEC meaning only 2 flash sales in November consistent with their recent pattern of doing 2 flash sales a month as they did in August, September and October. But I wouldn't count on them sticking to the pattern in either November or December. Could easily see 3 flash sales in November with the last one around Black Friday. And then 3 in December, one early on, one perhaps about 10 days from Christmas and then a final one during Boxing Day.

            • @Nil Einne: Another Flahsnov or early Flashdec would be great as my other half is having a tantrum now that I didn't get Ultra for him 😆

  • Does anyone know if the 10% welcome discount when using the samsung app resets when you create a new account?

    • Not sure but on modern Android devices it's fairly likely you can just use another user account on your mobile device and there's no way for the app to know if it's been used on the device before. Only possible exception I can think of is for Samsung devices if there's something in Samsung framework that allows them to access more. Most Android should allow 4 accounts plus a guest.

    • imo it sometimes works with new acc other times need a new device or maybe reset the phone.

      • If you are using multiple user accounts on an Android device, you should be able to just delete the user account and make a new one and it should be seen as a new "device" AFAIK (again with possible exception of Samsung devices). No need to factory reset.

While I haven't tried this with the Samsung shop app, it's fairly well known for the McDonald's app. And the McDonald's app is very aggressive with trying to stop you doing stuff they don't like to the extent they're sometimes seen as more aggressive than even banking apps at trying to stop you using rooted devices. (I haven't tested the Samsung shop app on a rooted device but considering they don't seem to care about an emulator I doubt they care about a rooted device. Incidentally if it doesn't work an emulator is likely another option.)

It's been quite a while since I looked in detail, Android just doesn't like random apps getting info that is permanently tied to the phone any more. The permission heyday is passed. See e.g. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/72662261/how-can-we-vali…

Not sure if this deserve its own thread but got an email from a samsung rep giving away voucher codes 10% discount for mobile and tvs and 25% discount for appliances. plus a $50 voucher code.

Got myself the jet 95 stick for $331 with trade-in my old vac + 25% discount code + $50 voucher code (from rep) + LOYAL50 and the 10% app welcome gift

    • Got a similar thing near the end of October. Interesting enough the 10% code is still working despite saying it should end on October 31st. (It's what I've been using in my price tests since I don't have a 10% members.)

    • Did you get the 210W Jet™95 Stick - HexaJet Motor Woody Green?
Do you mind sharing on how did you get the $50 voucher code from rep? thanks

      • Yes, that's the one I got. I didn't ask, the rep was kind enough to include it when she sent the 25% appliance voucher code.

I think you can just ask for it If it wasn't offered outright

        • I managed to get addition $50 voucher but still can't get the same price as you are. is the 25% voucher code is separate from the 26% discount on the website?

          is the code unique?

can you show me the breakdown please?

          • @epicor: Yes, the 25% voucher is a unique code separate from the 26% discount in the shop:

            26% off web/shop discount
            $200 trade in
            10% off app welcome gift
25% off unique code from rep
$50 off unique code from rep
            $50 off LOYAL50

            • @forged: Will u be able to share your code please? Maybe can be recycled? ☺️

              • @epicor: sure: 25% (home appliances): XMO-1W69-NZ6K-ZZKE

                extra $50 off: SNN-MYP6-C6EP-7YMN

    • How does one contact a rep? I've got access to the EPP store

Can anyone please share unused 25 percent coupon they don't need

  • Unrelated to OP thread, but how do you guys clean up your phone and make sure nothing is retrievable before handing it in? Pics, usage data etc. Keen to hear what others do to scrub their phones clean when trading in?

    • You remove your passcode and then do factory reset. They will send you instructions i think. Same deal for phone repairs. You can backup your phone using software.

      • +1

@victor47 This is what I did >Did a Factory reset > Copied over large files ( that is not important) so that the entire memory is filled > OR start the camera and record on the largest quality ( in my case a few hours on 8k completely filled the 256gb HD) facing downwards ( so that the content of the video is not important) > then do another factory reset.

the theory is the the last retrievable thing then will be the useless files and or video you recorded last.

        • nice work. Do you have any experience with paid recovery software and how much they can still pull out of these memories?

          • +1

@victor47: Im pretty sure its really hard if you have rewritten it over to retrieve a previous memory. Thats why I would suggest copy over stuff till its full.

            • +1

@RJA7: Modern Android devices use file-based encryption and the keys are generally stored in the SoC and wiped on factory reset meaning the chances of recovering anything after a factory reset is very very very low.

I'd me much more worried about losing your phone or having it stolen especially if it's on and has been unlocked. (To be clear, I mean you've started the phone and entered your PIN/password once. Even if it has a screen lock with PIN/password, it's much more vulnerable after you've done that, look into AFU.) For that matter accidentally getting some sort of malware.

              • @Nil Einne:

                I completely agree with this.

It is how / why a modern device can be completely 'wiped' (have all the data stored thereon rendered inaccessible from a practical perspective) in seconds - all you have to do is delete the encryption keys, and game over.

You don't need to actually delete / over-write everything, since what is readable is pseudo-random gibberish.

Of course, for the more paranoid, there is certainly no harm in also deleting and over-writing the data as well… not saying that I don't do that myself (!) but it is not really necessary.

Now, the flip-side of that is that if the keys get accidentally damaged / corrupted, then your data is similarly gone, so always worth having a backup of anything that you would not want to lose, as that also covers you for the more likely issues of losing your phone, having it stolen, damaging it, or getting infected with something nasty.

I feel a bit defeated and hopeless as Samsung seem to have started disabling promo codes to be stacked (loyal50 is no longer stackable with SNN survey code). I really should have got the early black friday sale with flashnov deal, that seemed to have been the best deal in hindsight. Hopefully there will be something better in December. I'm so depressed!!

    • Nah, if there's another flash sale and UPGRADES24 comes back it won't matter anyways, since it's 3 codes max.

    • AFAIK LOYAL50 is dead completely rather than just not being stackable.

  • What's up with stacking on EPP? IIRC it definitely wasn't working 2-3 weeks ago but somehow I missed until now that a bunch of the deals posted here were with stacking (the now dead) LOYAL50 and BF2024 on the EPP site. Is it only the BF2024 that allowed stacking with other codes on EPP or something?

    • You can only use one code on EPP now im pretty sure

      • But since when? I know it was like that about 3 weeks ago or so from my own tests, LOYAL50 didn't stack with UPGRADEZ or UPGRADES24 and possibly something else I tried (can't remember that one). And people reported it back in October.

However people were then able to use LOYAL50 and BF2024 on EPP very recently https://www.cheapies.nz/node/49447 , https://www.cheapies.nz/node/49410 and https://www.cheapies.nz/node/49434#comment-247058

Doesn't work any more but LOYAL50 doesn't work point blank.

        • I used LOYAL50 on Thursday and Friday but on Saturday it was no longer working. I got a 4TB SSD for $360.

          • @sunshinenz: Found an interesting thing about the EPP site and the Jet 95 Vacuum. Can stack both BF2024 and SNN 10% code provided by Samsung agent. But if you add a tradeup it removes one code and if you try to add it back you find you can now only use one of those codes but can use either one.

But with the 210W Bespoke Jet Plus Pet even with tradeup you can still use both. Likewise if you have both Jet 95 and Bespoke in the cart. Wonder if this means they've set a minimum selling price for items and if it's too low it removed discounts?

            • @Nil Einne: Sorry I meant SNN $50 off. The 10% off code doesn't work for vacuum cleaners.

Edit: Also per https://www.cheapies.nz/node/49434 problem with SNN and BF2024 not stacking with tradeup likely wasn't a minimum selling price for the Jet95 just a minimum for BF2024, silly of me not to think of that.

  • Note the trade in page for smartwatches and tablets are currently not working, probably fixed soon after discussion with handler.

Some items currently have a trade in boost offer, such as $300 boost for trade in when purchasing watch ultra 47mm lte.
Agent will give 10% discount and $50 discount code which came to trade in $345 + $145.92 + $239.80 bring the watch down to $468.28 from $959.20.
Will try again when the trade in pages work and see if 10% welcome discount + BF2024 code will stack to bring the $468.28 even further down
Edit - looks like 10% discount code and BF2024 code doesn't stack with one another but 10% welcome discount stacks when testing with phone trade in

    • I noticed that with the ultra watch, the email says trade in boost of $300 but on the site its $100. What are you trading into get that price?

      • watch 4 classic 46mm which is $45 + $300 boost total $345 for trade in

  • The Black Friday sale finally finishes 11am tomorrow (thank goodness!), hope they will do a flash December sale soon after that!

    • I'm keen to buy a Samsung sound bar. Not sure when will be flash sale at Dec, is Boxing Day part of flash sale? will Samsung bring back Black Friday deal, like replicate them agin?

      • I am a bit doubtful whether they will do another big sale like they did for the Flash November sales. In hindsight, those sales just seemed to be the best deals as you could stack many big discount codes to bring price down. Now they seem to have put a lid on these and limited all these code stacking. Let's just hope that they will do something in a next few days or weeks towards the boxing day sale…

  • New sale looks a bit average. $200-$300 trade in bonus + free case for the newer devices
    https://www.samsung.com/nz/offer/holiday-sale/

  • For those worrying re future sales.

Samsung are now the Briscoes of sales…. you will get the exact same deal pop up again at some point.
