Been hoping to pick one of these up on a good discount for the bedroom so I can use it to cast from Sky Go rather than pay for Sky multiroom.
I don't think the quality will be as good streamed. Does anyone know if that's the case?
Worth it for that, just note that unlike Netflix, YouTube, etc, Sky Go doesn’t have a downloadable app that sits directly on the chromecast and can be controlled with the remote. For Sky Go, you still have to cast to it from your phone.
Thanks for that info. Got a Smart TV in the bedroom with all the apps. Generally watch Sky in the lounge but occasionally it would be nice to watch sport from overnight in bed on a Sunday morning so Chromecast would suffice for that. Just haven't wanted to pay full price for one with not much need for it.
There is a sky go add on for kodi. That should work just fine on one of these. Been using the add on for a few years now
Question - Can this Chromecast with Google TV cast Netflix without requiring a login? For instance, if I'm using my phone to cast Netflix to the TV, will it start casting immediately, or will it prompt me to log into the Netflix app on the TV first?
This one has all the apps in it including Netflix. It has google app store to download & install apps. Why would you want to Cast Netflix from your phone to this when you can directly run it?
Edit: Just tried it and does ask to login to the profile when trying to cast from my phone. Frankly, I am not certain why you would want to do this.
I want to install Netflix but without logging into my account or entering my credentials on the TV. This way, even if the kids find the remote, they won’t be able to select shows on their own and will have to ask me to start what they want to watch using my phone. My current Chromecast doesn’t require a login on the TV when casting.
P.S. I know I can use parental controls, but I’m wondering if there's a way to avoid them entirely and maintain 100% control.
Soinds like and older model chromecast as that's how they worked. I wonder how these behave if you uninstall netflix completely and cast it.
You can have different user accounts on the GoogleTV, so one for yourself and one for kids (so they do not have Netflocks app). I set up a kids like account for dementia dad so he does not get Netflix app and other apps (which require subscriptions etc, so he does not get confused and sign up for subscriptions he does not need). So he just has the free apps that suit him (eg. removed the childrens channel app and Youtube etc, which would just confuse him) and Sky Sport Now app (which he has a subscription for watching premier league English Football) only.
I price promised this at The Warehouse the other day when this deal was posted. I sat on it in my cart as I don't need it straight away. I've just checked my cart and due to the singles day promo (11% discount) currently running it's down to $59.63.

Since 11% is a store wide deal for specific items. They price matched my cart this morning and the 11% discount got applied too.
Just did the same thunking yhis kight work and came here to add this exact comment. Got a pair of them on the way to replace an old chromecast and use as a travel device at oirnworks batch with a hard drive.
