Now that is a sharp cheapies bargain, thinking of getting this and I don't even have a car.

  • Cheapest are showing for $39.99 sorted by lowest price - all the cheapies gone already?

    • yup gone. Saw some for 9.99 but not in my tire size

  • I think $9.99 was a price error!

Not sure. They were a very unique tyre type, didn’t look like normal road tyres.

      • Yeah they were small. Maybe trailer tyres lol

I've used these guys before - moble truck in Auckland was very good experience.

  • Tony's Tyre Service should be able to price match an install by $10 a tyre.

That means if you build a cart with your tyres, select an install (don't forget the code 20HYPER to get an extra $20 off) then take a screenshot, you can email the quote to Tonys to get an even better price

    • Yeah but do they stock this brand, they mostly have Bridgestone tyres?

      • Tonys will match with an equivilent tyre. That means if you select the cheapest tyres available on Hyperdrive and ask them to do a pricebeat, they will offer you the cheapest tyre they stock (Bridgestone Dayton)

    • It's probably not worth saving the $10: https://tonys.nz/tyres/price-beat-guarantee

The $10 Price Beat Guarantee applies to the first competitor’s genuine quote and only applies to a competitor's cash price. The competitor’s genuine quote must be:

Forr the same or similar quality new tyre in the same size as stocked by Tony's Tyre & Auto Care (stocked brands include Bridgestone, Firestone, Supercat and Dayton); and must be inclusive of fitting, balancing, delivery, taxes, tyre disposals, freight and other fees and charges.
It must also be; presented prior to the sale of goods; and from a tyre supplier which Tony’s Tyre & Auto Care can verify.

The competitor tyre must be in stock in the required quantity and the fitment centre must be located within 40km of the customer’s nominated Tony's Tyre & Auto Care store. The $10 Price Beat Guarantee applies to retail sales only and tyres must be fitted in store at time of purchase. It cannot be used in conjunction with any other Tony's Tyre & Auto Care promotion or offers.

      • Yeah quite a few (valid) restrictions but I've had great luck with it in the past - obviously YMMV but never hurts to fire off an online price beat request.

Most recent one was for a Suziki Swift late last year. Jumped on Hyperdrive website, added everthing to the cart and went through to the checkout to grab a screenshot. Price including fitting with the mobile van for the cheapest Hyperdrive tyres I could find on their site.
The total quote came to a bit under $400 including fitting at my house and disposal etc.

Then used Tonys online tool to get a price beat and they came back to me within a few hours offering around $350 for 4x Dayton tyres fitted (also with their Auckland mobile van at my house)

        • That's good, unless the Dayton are worse than the Hyperdrive ones.

          • @Senior Mouse: They are all budget tyres so take that for what it is.

The Daytons are Bridgestones 'entry' model aka the cheapest ones they make that they don't want to put their main name on. But also, the tyres you're matching against on Hyperdrive are also the cheapest Chinese tyres that Hyperdrive are able to get into the country so I doubt there is that much difference in them either way?

Also, for most of the population, we drive our vehicles on suburban roads with a bit of highway. The tyres never see snow or ice, they never leave a road, and they never exceed much more than 100km/h.

My Swift is a runaround that spends most of its life on under 10km suburban trips so cheap tyres are perfectly suitable to me. And if I only get 30,000km instead of 70,000km distance out of them … well I spent a lot less than half the price of a premium set, and I'm unlikely to still own that car after 70,000km anyway

            • @Tmurder91:

I only get 30,000km instead of 70,000km distance out of them … well I spent a lot less than half the price of a premium set

Wouldn't it have been better to get the premium one that lasted longer, if the cheap one at half the price only lasted half as long? You'd essentially be getting the performance for free, even if you didn't use it to its full potential as you say.

Although, the caveat is that it depends how invested you are in the vehicle. By the sounds of things you get another one every 4-5 years. Perhaps a $5000 car can last that long before it stops being economical to fix.

              • @Senior Mouse: Yeah how long you intend to keep the car does play big into it. If you're holding the car for that long and got a reasonable deal then going premium might make a difference.

Equally, if you were driving an EV (especially older ones with limited range) etc then you'd probably want to consider a tyre that offers low rolling resistance therefore increasing the distance you can travel on a single charge.

I ended up paying around $90 per tyre fitted as opposed to $220-$260 for more premium tyres which tend to guarantee around 50,000km.
From what I could find, there are only a few options that offer 70,000 or 80,000km and I didn't even bother getting a quote for them so I can't speak to their costs.

      • You can actually get the price beat from Tonys in writing (just ask them to email you the quote) and then ask Hyper Drive to price beat on that. Hyper Drive will price beat $20 a tyre.

  • Can't find any for 9.99?

Have called TyrePower. It's $750 for 3 tyres and you get the 4th one free. Cost includes fitting. So that actually comes out cheaper than Hyper Drive.

Hyper Drive requires an additional $35 fitting per tyre.

      • Thank you for the follow up, I will certainly contact these fellas.

      • Oh and it's $90 for wheel alignment

      • I ended up going with Hyper Drive.

I got my quote from TyrePower for $750 for 3 tyres (4th one free) + $90 for wheel alignment, which comes out to $840.

Hyper Drive does $20 price beat per tyre, so they offered $760 for everything including wheel alignment, GST included. What I found interesting is that in the original quote (without the price beat) that Hyper Drive provided me, their tyres were already cheaper than their competitors, just that other components (like alignment) cost more. They would still offer the price beat on the overall cost though, which is nice.

They also allow CC payment, which means you can pay with Dosh and get cashback.
