All Things Dick Smith - Crazy, Clearance, Collapse (Closure of Stores)

Yes I know we all knew about it a week ago, but it seems Dick Smith are finally advertising it Dick Smith Crazy Clearance- In-store only

There are still deals to be had, especially if your trained in bargain hunting (it also helps to know what is on clearance) as most of the good remaining bargains are not clearly marked or are in strange places.

Update:

        • I can confirm this as I have friends working in DSE. So there will be sales similar to the one pre-Christmas.

      • Most staff would've foreseen this I think. Foot traffic has been falling and the post-receivership sales were terrible, probably due to the fact that suppliers were no longer giving them any trade credit.

        • Yeah I have been to a few Auckland stores post-receivership and they were dead quiet…

  • Looks like sales are starting tomorrow: https://imgur.com/yEapZrv (from OzBargain)

    • Perhaps it's worthwhile putting up a front page deal for the liquidation sale. That way we can discuss any good local deals in the comments.

      • I definitely recommend that as I'm sure there will be a few unmissable deals to be had. All buying obviously would be at your own risk and don't buy extended warranties.

        • Aren't the extended warranties managed by an external company?

    • Perhaps it's worthwhile putting up a front page deal for the liquidation sale.

I've put up a notice on the front page to this thread. I wouldn't get too excited yet as they may start the sales off very low gradually increasing towards the end of the 8 weeks.

We were discussing this last night, it's ridiculous that they are trying to dump this stock at above normal retail price (Not RRP), it defies belief.

      • But how many people see 50% off consider it a deal and buy based off that without researching it?

        • +1

Well, some, but not many. Consider the fact that they have quite often had large discounts on phone cases and accessories over a period of time, but still have massive stocks of them. Obviously means someone has got happy when purchasing them, but even when they were a couple of dollars before Christmas, people were still going in there, looking, and not buying.

    • Cheers for the heads up. Looks like it is the stuff they had for 80% off during the fire sale.

      • I think the only stuff worth picking up would be newer model phone cases, such as LifeProof (If they have them) and Kindle branded cases for current gen devices. Having 50% off branded products such as these which aren't frequently discounted makes for a good deal as it looks like it applies as a blanket discount to the category.

Still, as others say it's not really an amazing deal, it's what you'd expect from Noel Leeming having a sale.

      • Yeah, funny to see it spent more time at 75% off than it did at full price. Graph does prove they're at 50% off now though which means the receivership sale has expanded from 20-40% off.

My price updates are really just to track what products/days are worth going for.

        • Yea, the sale is taking shape slowly… Very slowly.

Will be interesting to see how the last few days go, and thanks for keeping us updated on the changes!

        • @Shaw: Some of the deals are great (marking leading) but only just (Beats, UE Boom, Go Pro, etc.) but it is not worth it not having a store to return a product to for warranty purposes, etc. If they get the DSE/Move branded products down enough (80% + off) and drive traffic into the stores, then there is a real possibility of most of the good stuff selling before really hitting 'bargain' pricing.

Based on the fact that there is very limited stock for non DSE braded items, it's going to be very hard to find any stock when it does hit 50% off as it looks like most items are click & collect now/instore only now, and a few people will be biting at 20-40% off.

  • 100s of new price changes over night. I've been looking through them on price spy Here are some notable ones:
    Fitbit Flex-$119.96
    Fitbit one-$119.96
    GoPro hero4 Black adventure-$666.75
    Fitbit Zip-$74.96
    Fitbit surge-$352.46

There are probably lots more that I haven't found yet, I will keep looking.

Just posted this as a deal here.

  • The prices they are after for some shop fittings are laughable. I wouldn't pay the amount they're after for it new, although I suspect my price perception of commercial shop fittings isn't very accurate.

    • What are the sort of prices they are after with shop fittings? You can often pick up shop fitting really cheaply at auction houses. I wouldn't have though DSE shop fittings were all that great. They were probably quite expensive to buy initially, but I suspect that would only be worth a small fraction second hand. The receivers though will be trying to get as much as they can. Perhaps best to wait until the last week. I am not going to go in until the last week.

      • The glass cabinets seemed to be $400-450 at the George St, Dunedin store. Oh and the security gates were $425 for a pair

  • UPDATE

It appears to be within the final 48 hours for the receivership sale online. See the Receiver's Sale webpage for the latest discounts.

I went into the Palmerston North store today for a look. Here are the prices for the store fixtures:

    Palmerston North Store Fixtures

I also saw 70% off Surge Protectors. These Phillips 6 Way Surgeboards are now $23.99. There was an Phillips 8 Way Surgeboard there, now $26.99, as well.

These don't appear to be online so are probably in-store specials only. Check your local store for stock if you're after a cheap Surge Protector. Dick Smith branded Surge Protectors are on the website and can be found here.

I'm waiting for the red dots to get to 80%.

Nice photos though, they didn't have anything like that here in Levin, just a few fixtures with price stickers on them.

    • These Phillips 6 Way Surgeboards Phillips 6 Way Surgeboards are now $23.99.

      They are now $16 each.

Also the reverse adapters that were $5+ last week are now $4. Grabbed a couple of each at those prices.

  • Discounts are now 30 - 80% off

Can confirm the discounts are different than these, but don't have a list.

    • Image on Reciever's Sale webpage now updated.

Only lists items at 30% though.

Hopefully we can get a list soon.

I wrote this to Neil before:

80% off all "red dot" stuff
The Philips socket boards were 80%, the tavel adapters posted on CC were 80%, the DSE nimh batteries are 80%, phone cases and car chargers are 80%, hdmi and some other cables are 80%.
        Really just junk
I saw a Samsung phone dock there too
        Some wireless mice and keyboard
        Some headsets
To give you an idea, I just purchased 2 Philips power boards and 2 travel reverse adapters. The rest of the pricing was still pretty junk"

          @Mark Wasley:

Fair enough. Love it up here, family has a timeshare, so spend a bit of time up. Attending a wedding this time.

        • Did you go to the Palmerston North store?

        • @Mark Wasley:

          Na, Taupo today.

        • @Shaw: That's alright. Haven't been to Taupo for a while, I usually just past through on bus trips to/from Auckland.

  • I was just in before and noticed batteries are now 60% off and all breville kitchen stuff is 40% off, toasters, oven kettles etc also spotted those nespresso coffee machines are also 40% off

  • Logitech Harmony 650 - $29.70
    Logitech Wireless Touchpad T650 - $10
    logitech k480 Bluetooth Keyboard - $27.99

Grabbed some of them toady, really good prices for Logitech gear.

    • That's awesome Shaw! Are you aware that your local store, the Levin store, will close on April 9? It was advised somewhere else on ChoiceCheapies, but I guess that list could also be posted in this forum.

      • +1

Teckiwi posted this list on the Logitech keyboard deal:

        • That's the one, thanks ClipIt.

      • +1

Yea bro, the staff have a sign up with "# of days to go" or something similar. Had a chat to them today, none have been able to find other jobs yet, so that's a bit of a pain in the ass for them.

  • Anyone able to find 4 pack aa eneloops? None at palmy and the 2 pack is like $8

    • Think there were some in Taupo when I was there a week ago.

The 8 packs are the best deals though.

      • Yeah, no place in nz I'm aware of have aa 8 packs, the aa are seemingly becoming extinct

        • I got some glitter AA packs, 3 of them, the other day from Levin. $12 a pack, but none left now.

They were the original Sanyo branding too, so must've been sitting around for a while.

        • aww dude, you wait just one more week for a higher rate of discount and all the best gear are now Gone :( and my eyes are like scarred by the mountains of cables and cheap faceplates…

        • I got the second to last one at Alexandra

  • There are still a bunch of Fuji Instax cameras in the Takapuna and Newmarket stores, currently selling for $77 but will certainly go lower soon.

    • +1

Instax cameras now down to $64.50

      • +1

That's super cheap! Too bad I already have one plus an instax share!

And shout out to amscar for being awesome by helping another cheapies brother out!

  • 50% to 85% now!

    • But do any stores have anything decent left?

      • mmm I know quite a lot of stores still have the "premium" cables that are red dot. But as for other items, probably not haha

        • +1

Haha HDMI cables… Got plenty of those.

        • +1

@Shaw: Yes but those connectors are sooooo shiny! At 90% off I just have to have them.

        • +1

          @Avantime:

Fair enough, nothing beats a shiny HDMI cable!!

        • @Shaw: Oh and plenty of 7"/8"/10" tablet cover and cases left too! + indoor/outdoor antenna are at least 70% off?

Oh andear does anyone know which auckland store still have the wireless keyboard with a touchpad? (Either dse branded or logitech)

  • Anyone come across any cheap CR2032 batteries at DS?

    • Here's the product page online.

      • Cheers, would be this one, can't buy online anymore though. Local store has closed, and going to check Palmy next week, but who knows what will be left there.

        Actually, cheaper on Trademe anyway.

And much cheaper on eBay :)

        • Just about everything seems cheaper on eBay. Needed a replacement Fitbit recharger cable (grrr coys who supply products with unique connectors) Was going to cost about NZ$35 plus $15 postage from NZ supplier. Bought two (supposedly original) for $5, postage included (from seller with great eBay store rep). With the built in purchase protection from both eBay and Paypal, hard to go wrong.

        • @Jay: Was this cable for Fitbit charge? If so can you send me a link?

        • @Kristo: Ours was for a Charge HR which has a different charge cable to the Charge (why oh why such madness??) I used axeprice. Not sure if they have the Charge cable. But plenty of sellers. Just a matter of searching for one with free international freight.

    • Always get these button cells at a two dollar shop, like the Look Sharp stores in Auckland. DSE is too expensive and eBay/Dealextreme batteries takes too long to arrive, and the vast majority of the branded button cells (e.g. Sony, Maxell) are fake - if it's fake you might as well buy the unbranded ones locally.

      • Yea, would have if I needed them ASAP.

    • If you still want some Dick Smith have some 10 for $5.

      • Ended up getting some from eBay, about 20 for that price :) thanks though.

  • UPDATE

PRICES CUT AGAIN: 60 - 90% off the original price on thousands of items.

    90% off Red Dot accessories

60% off the original price of all Audio, Headphones, Speakers, Home Theatre, Blu-ray and DVD Players, Home Appliances, GPS and Cameras (all were only 50% last week, 40% the week before)

35% off the original price of unlocked Mobile Phones (was only 30% last week)
30% off the original price of TVs, desktop computers, notebooks and tablets (was only 25% last week)
20% off the original price of Apple watches and iPods (was only 15% last week)
15% off the original price of Apple iPads (no change on last week)
10% off the original price of Apple computers (no change on last week)
5% off the original price of Apple iPhones (no change on last week)

Once again, I'm unsure what categories have products discounted between 60 and 90% so would appreciate members posting this information if they come across it.

    Happy shopping :)

    • Anything left in Palmy store bro? Thinking of going in for a look next week.

      • Haven't been in since last Tuesday. Yes, they have heaps of home appliances, speakers, power boards were nearly all gone and plenty of phone cases, batteries and audio and charging cables.

        • +1

Sweet, might go in for a look if there is still some stuff there.

  • Microsoft office 365 is at 70% off and showing stock in Auckland with 10+ units at Queen Street and Sylvia park with smaller quantities at other stores.

Wellington stock is showing as available as of opening this morning at Porirua (3), Queensgate (6).

Personal single user one year is $35.70 with cat code XS1967

Home premium 5 users one year is $49.50 with cat code XS1480.

The home and student one was also 70% but unsure of price.

    • Yeah I can confirm there's at least three at Queen St store (saw it last Friday). That's a pretty good price for office! Would have bought it but I get my MS Office 2016 and 2013 for free anyway haha.

  • If anyone is at a Dick Smith with cheap Xbox One games, feel free to let me know what they have got. Cheers.

    • +2

False alarm, it was just piles of cases with no games! Haha

      • ahahahhaha…. discs were probably 'borrowed' by staff a while back…

    • Pretty sure they cleared their gaming inventory during the pre-receivership clearance. There could be a few games still kicking around though.

      • Apparently they had a whole bin for $6 each in Palmy the other day, but I didn't have an Xbox, so just walked right past them.

    • None in Upper Hutt or Lower Hutt

  • iPhones at Featherston St now 25% off, only one is new though all the rest are demo.

New model is iPhone 6+ 64GB for $1049.

  • All stores should be accepting offers for bulk buys around this time of day. Just bought approx 10 Android phones (all of the ones they had left) for $300 in total. Marked price at 60% off RRP was $450.

  • One of the stores was selling Nexus 4 for over $300, what a rip off!
    Which phones did you get?

    • Actually ended up buying 25 phones, 15 for $150 (Low end some Android some candy bar non touch) and then the 10 for $300 I mentioned which were also lower end Android devices, but all touch screen and all Android. Think I could have actually gotten the price lower but oh well.

Also, just missed out on scoring at iPhone 6S Plus and iPhone 6Plus for $450 each due to being on wrong side of town.

Ah well - all over now until next closing down sale!

    • Quick spotting! It wasn't earlier in the week. Looks like a nicer website too!

      • The website is identical to Kogan, only a different colour scheme. Even the same prices.

  • Just did a post with all the good specials at Dick Smith (Kogan)

Also I think the message saying:

Please note that Dick Smith has gone into Administration. While the business is currently trading as normal, this may change with no notice and may affect customers.

If you are posting a deal using a code or information from an existing post, please reference that original post in your deal.
If the product is only available in store, please mention the store in the title and description (INCLUDE THE SUBURB).

That comes when you want to post a Dick Smith Deal should go since Dick Smith is no longer in Administration and a product can't be in-store only.

    • +1

      Sweet, have removed that block.

  • Have removed Dick Smiths price match from the wiki page as new Dick Smith (Kogan) don't offer a new Price Match.
