$250 Joining Credit, $20 off Broadband - 2Degrees Power

40

Have recently been offered the chance to join 2Degrees Power, which I am considering now that Electric Kiwi has killed the SA200 plan with the bonus $20 credit, and has increased prices/removed credit card top ups.

2Degrees are offering $250 joining credit when you join power and broadband, on an eligible broadband plan as a new customer (not ideal for those of us already with 2Degrees for mobile and broadband).

$20 per month discount offered for bundling broadband and power as well (deducted from the broadband account), and this can be stacked with $10 per month discount for bundling mobile with them.

Pricing for the power plans:

Low User Plan: Day Usage Charge 35.84c /kWh, Night Usage Charge 20.96c /kWh, Fixed Daily Charge 80.00c /day, Capacity Charge 0.00c /kVa
Standard User Plan: Day Usage Charge 33.98c /kWh, Night Usage Charge 19.07c /kWh, Fixed Daily Charge $1.261 /day, Capacity Charge 0.00c /kVa

Damn that's a very expensive usage charge. More than double than what I'm paying with Mercury now.

  • That's very expensive compare with Genesis I am with now. Also 2 Degree used to offer 4 or 6 months free on 12 months broadband contract, if you take the 900/400 that's way better than $250

  • Very expensive, considering that to join as a NEW broadband customer, the cost would prob be like $90 for 300/100. At least, this is what they quoted me when I called a few months ago. Contrast this to the Slingshot $59 300/100 plan that I just switched to (1 year contract though), that's quite the difference.

And if you're on Octopus Energy, the rates are much better and no contract:

    Daily charge = $0/day
    Peak = 38.571c /kWh
    Off-peak = 30.659c kWh
    Night = 19.297c kWh

Most of my usage are off-peak and night, so I average about $47 per month using about 170 kWh.

They are phasing out low use plans so that daily charge is just going to increase every April.

Also power pricing is different per region due to lines company.

For example my Wellington house 2degrees rates being offered under this special are:

      For Standard user:

      All-Inclusive Usage Charge
      22.77c /kWh
      Fixed Daily Charge
      $2.391 /day

      Low User

      All-Inclusive Usage Charge
      30.03c /kWh
      Fixed Daily Charge
      80.00c /day

Octopus for standard user in Wellington still had a $2+ daily charge in Wellington, but $0 for low user.

      • Yeah, I'm aware they're phasing out the low use plan since 2 years ago. I was with Merdian on a legacy plan that was very cheap but they completely phased it out and that's when I switched to Octopus Energy. When Octopus Energy entered into the market, my understanding was that they stated somewhere that they weren't going to adjust the plans for a few years. I have a few properties and I signed up with Octopus Energy on a few of them. The most recent signup was around November last year and I'm on the exact same plan and rates. So I'm not sure they're phasing out the low user plan soon. Right now, they're still the cheapest for me. I average $47~$55 a month. And that's for a property that operates completely on power for everything.

  • What Mercury plan are you with? Electric Kiwi is offering $0.3282 GST incl per kWh ($0.2854 GST excl) with a fixed cost of $1.10 GST incl per day ($0.96 GST excl), or an alternative plan of $1.43 GST incl per day ($1.24 GST excl), with peak usage of $0.4032 GST incl per kWh ($0.3506 GST excl) and off-peak $0.3024 GST incl per kWh ($0.263 GST excl).

Seems like Mercury are pretty sharp in comparison, and you get a free fridge!

    • 14.88c/kWH, standard user plan. with a 210.65c daily charge.

  • They called me as I have broadband from them I said I am on 15 cents + gst on 24 h power i will change ifnyou match it they were like nope can't match that price , i am with mercury

  • which companies still have low daily user charge for ultra low user?

nau mai ra. They have no daily charge even after April 1st (rates going up slightly). Cheaper than Frank Energy if under around 200kwh/month.

30.35 c per kWh excluding GST after April.

  • Why are many (142 Kiwis signed up last week on banner ) signing up for Slingshot when Now broadband is a better deal?
$388 savings as opposed to $47.50 for 12 months with Now further down
