From zooming in on the new product labelling, it seems the oil is still API SL rated, so, not suitable for cars made after 2004 that should be used with newer, higher-rated oil, i.e. SN or SP

Fair point but perhaps they have a large inventory at their distribution centre. The number of pre 04 cars on the roads are only decreasing…
I ran this oil in my 2007 Blade for years, stayed nice and clean and didn't burn a drop. I think improvements tend to focus of protecting cats / reducing emissions and the likes. I'd happily run any fully synthetic engine (of correct weight) in any modern cars. Good value at $55 for 5L. I never run ethanol mix fuel so that part of the improvement wouldn't matter.
I wouldn't worry about that as long as your service intervals are reasonable.
