    You need a new wiper - $80.

I would rather pay for the wof because don't think they are doing this out of charity.

The good thing is you can say:
"OK thanks, I'll be back within 28 days for the free recheck!"

    • If they are part of the Ford dealership group, then that sounds about right (part $5, labour fee $75)

      • The last service I went to Ford, was $4500. New bushes and ball joints plus a couple of usual service items like fluids. Never again. Ball joints on that ford need replacing every year.

I agree with Senior mouse, upside free WoF downside, a failed WoF and seeya later. If it is just a wiper you could spend the money you saved on a WoF on a better wiper too! I doubt theyll start taking your car apart or clamp it 😅

      • Or they might get you on the books for upsells (sales) ;)

I'm expecting a fail for every car.

    • unless its just new from the showroom.

  • I take my vehicles to VINZ. It's peace of mind knowing that the place that tests my vehicles only does testing and doesn't have any skin in the game when it comes to repairing or servicing.

    • This is a pretty good deal for anyone who lives in that area with a mazda. I take mine to the garage where the car is services, who are reasonably honest I think .Never had any issues. Last time I took it to a sole vehicle testing place, they found some issues which weren't actually issues when I took it to the garage.

      • I go to North Harbour Mazda all the time and I think they are trustworthy and reasonable too. Only had a few parts replaced in the last 4 or 5 years and most of the WoF were very smooth.

    • The problem with vtnz/vinz is the wait times and the staff are overworked. Sometimes they give really bizarre reasons for finding issues or in recent times very vague passes. It used to be the guys would spend a bit of time going over some points and write notes. I question if some of them these days are qualified to use a spanner.

Picked up a voucher and did the wof/std service tonys tyre on our banger of a second car. Was quite decent and they provided a video report of their findings to back up what they did. Still charged an outrageous amount for spark plugs (x4 supercheap) but still came out better off.

  • Anyone recommend a good toyota mechanic around the Meadowbank area? For my son.

  • How much does a standard car service cost these days? We've been paying $400 for one and around $300 for other in the last few years.

I bought my Mazda new from the dealership and serviced with them for years. Was paying around $200. But they've increased the price over the years and from memory it was $279. I didn't like it and they didn't do much for me anyway, so I went to this automotive shop in east Auckland and paid $150 for WOF and service, was a bargain and they have good reputation as well. Last time I went there was around December last year and there was something wrong with my seat belt, the guy fixed it and charged an extra $50 or so, which wasn't too bad considering how much time and effort it required. QUALITY AUTOMOTIVE REPAIRS - 147 Cascades Rd is the place.

    • $239 for a standard bronze service at AA Auto Centre if you're a member. Went there last month for servicing and WOF at Panmure branch. They did a pretty good job.

  • Had my WOF done just 2 months ago so I shouldn't fail it. Would be keen to try this to get the WOF extended a bit longer, since I hate doing these things.

    • In memory you could only do a new one a month or so ahead of the expiration.

      • oh really? That's dumb…

      • There's no such restriction. Sometimes people just get a WOF early. For example they don't want the WOF to expire while they are overseas, or they sell their car and the buyer requests a new WOF.

        • OK but if you fail the WOF, the current one gets taken away?

  • the title should be - Excludes Costs for Work/Parts (if) Required
