If only they'd bother to respond to an existing customer who asked them to price match this or consider that email a request to terminate service.

    • I rang them a while back and they gave me a fairly good offer to stay on

      • I was on 2Degrees on a 12-mo term for $65/mo with free 12-months Prime Video and $100 prezzy card.

My 12 months has expired so I called them yesterday to see what they could offer. The "best" they could do was a $15 discount on a new 12-month term, so I would get their 300 Fibre plan for $82 instead of $97. I asked about Prime and they said it's not included.

I can't see any reason to stick with 2D.

        • Wow. Ok they didn’t give me prime but I got a $100 credit on my bill in addition to $82/month.

        • Is your 12-mo term for $65/mo including a $5 Supergold discount?

          • @Bill: no it wasn't, no supergold discount and no power/mobile bundle discount.

            • @quacko: Didn't you get a $5 increase in September?

              • +1

@Bill: yes that's correct, so it went from 65 to 70

    • It took a few weeks for me to get retained via email last 2 renewals as I cbf sitting in the phone queue. Got $15/month off.
Could try go to a no contracts ISP for a month or two https://www.broadbandcompare.co.nz/compare to come back as a new customer

      • My take is if they won't offer me new customer deal I won't be a customer anymore. My partner however is in the market for a new internet connection 😉

  • My 12 months with 2Degrees has just expired and I'm currently looking for the next option. So far I'm looking at Skinny (BYO modem, $75/month for 300MB fibre on a 12-month term with 1 month free = $68.75 equivalent/month).

Can anyone recommend a better deal?

    • Some yarns here
      https://www.cheapies.nz/node/45396

I went with Slingshot $65/month for 12 months (+$5 monthly modem hire which you won’t need).

Glimp gives you Slingshot four months free then $97/month.

      • Thanks for the link, I had missed that discussion

      • Maybe they've changed but Slingshot are the worst company I've ever dealt with in NZ. hour+ wait times on phone etc, any problems were a nightmare to sort out.

        • What was your issue? I’ve only been with them once before. Never had an issue so never had to deal with their support team.

          • @Wakrak: Few years ago now, was only with them for internet but support was awful whenever I needed it. Maybe they've got better and know 2degree's get a bad rap from some people but have found them to be way better and easier to get a hold of.

@MaxPower: Have been with them since 6 months and have been with them in past. They are not the best but they have been good. Had issue initially when I had connection and it was sorted fine. Old provider made a mess. I say they are ok now.

    • Call up 2degrees and ask for the retention team. They managed to bring the price down to $84 per month for Ultimate Ultimate Fibre 1000/500 which includes the mobile Pay Monthly discount. It was still higher than for new customers so I pushed further and they offered a free month too.

      • So many varying prices listed in this thread. I'm currently with 2D with about 1 month left on a 12mth contract at $74pm 1000/500 plan (no mobile discount).

I e-mailed to say I want to disconnect on my last day as I plan to go to Slingshot and they rang/emailed the following offer which seems slightly better compared to others in this thread:

12 months term contract on ultimate fibre 900 plan for $80/month.

I chose not to go with it as Slingshot is still cheaper via the glimp/bb compare deal and we will signup for mobile with them to bring it down even further.

        • How many discounts are you on to get 1000/500 at $74/month? Did you also get an $100 joining credit/prezzy card?

    • I switched to Zeronet as they're offering 5 months half price so it was only $29 for me as I just went for the lowest speed. They then emailed me an offer for 6 months half price instead of 5 as I was procrastinating a bit on switching. The only issue I had was they sent the modem to the wrong address initially but its all sorted now and I'm pretty happy.

  • I rang retention team a month ago and for 12 mths contract offered a free month. I did nothing so now they sent me $100 credit BUT no pricing info when you click the link. Phoned them again & you get charged at $97/ mth (without a free mth) so wow an extra $3 saving. She admitted that people just click the link without checking. How scammy is that - not saying upfront what the cost is? Some people may assume it will still be the $65 they were charged before (with a $100 sweetener). But $97 is a huge jump to be locked into for 12 mths.
I asked for a better deal and they offered $50 credit and a rate of $82/mth so Skinny is still cheaper (& I think their modem is better). On regular fibre 300/100

Note: Also, recently I got a cold sales call from a 2degrees marketer trying to sell me their service as a NEW customer…"Who is your current ISP provider?" duh

  • I've had nothing but good service from 2 degrees broadband. Every year they give me a new deal and haven't given me a good enough reason to change.

  • I phoned them today as current contract ends this month. Surprisingly call was answered within 5 mins. Spoke with retention and resigned paying 72 month with 1 month free. Tried to get prime but was told they can’t on existing customers.
Pretty happy with the call overall ( previous calls haven’t been the greatest) i was actually expecting I would have to go elsewhere

    • Does that include a mobile discount? Otherwise, an average monthly cost of $66/month is pretty good and if I can add the super gold discount I have, it comes down to $61/month.

      • +1

Yip includes the $10 mobile discount and is 300/100mbs

  • That's $10 + 1 month better than I got offered, and if they had offered that I might have accepted (assuming it's 300M fibre?)

  • Just signed up througg Broadband Compare a couple of days ago, they were $10 cheaper without need for Mobile plan and Free modem.

    https://www.broadbandcompare.co.nz/plan/exclusive-unlimited-…

  • There's been a fair bit of discussion about 2 degrees over at Geekzone, they were a geek favourite for awhile but the general consensus seems to be that they are pretty awful now.

  • I joined them 5 days ago, do you think I can call and ask them for the offer? If they refuse, is there a 14 days policy?

  • Signed up with Slingshot recently after being on the previous 2 Degrees $65 deal since it averaged out to around $65 with Slingshot. I did contact 2 Degrees and all they could offer was a $120 credit but it still came to $72 a month with the credit on average. They wouldn't negotiate further or try and match other deals.

  • I just remembered to check last week and realised my 12 months was up and I was back on the full price. I will hit them up, don't think I'll try the phone, that was painful last time. Maybe I'll try emailing. I was none to impressed when they switched their servers over (something to do with the merger) and a whole bunch of the Internet didn't work properly, zero communication, thankfully somebody over on geekzone was able to fix the issue without needing to sit on hold for hours on end. So if they don't give me a good deal, time to try somebody else.

  • We had the retention chat this morning and it was painful, my partner got cut off so they called me and her back separately, they offered us $72/month with $100 credit bringing the average down to $63.66. My partner thought that was ok but when they called me they said it doesn't include Amazon prime that the glimp offer does. I pushed back and said just match glimp or I'm leaving and she'll sign up as a new customer to get that price, no dice and they wouldn't budge.any further in price.

So anyway, I'm leaving 2degrees and she'll be starting her new contract next week. It's madness that returning the router and dealing with a full new connection costs less than just leaving it as it is but they were given the chance to avoid it.

    • Does that include a $10 mobile discount?

      • Yeah all prices were after the discount for having a mobile with them. Now the fun of trying to make sure one cancels after the other starts.

    • When they have a script to follow, anything that falls outside that script (regardless of how logical or sense it makes) is just a no :(

  • Slingshot is offering $65 for 12 months https://www.broadbandcompare.co.nz/plan/unlimited-fibre-300-… (bring your own modem, or extra $5/mo for a modem)

Seems like a nice clean deal. I'll probably give 2D one more chance to match it.
