Recently made a spreadsheet comparing energy providers in Auckland. Found Contact energy to be the cheapest. I saw that the SWITCH300 promo has been submitted (https://www.cheapies.nz/node/45078), however that offer only applies to existing customers. This is the new customer counter-part for the same deal.

Note that I was unable to use a referral code (valued at $100) on signup in conjunction with this deal.

  • Nice, my contract with vodafone is finally coming up and I want to get off them ASAP with all the price rises.

If I'm reading this correctly it's not fixed term? Just need to last more than 30 days?

    • That's my understanding too! The other thread has people mentioning signing up and using the $300 credit, then being able to switch out.

  • +1

I signed up to contact broadband last month, and it is seriously bad

    • Are you using your own modem?

      • Using contact's modem

        • I’m curious to know in what way/s you’re finding it seriously bad? Speeds? Wifi connection issues? Drop-outs? Other?

          • @JedEnzed: The speed is incredibly slow on all mydevices. I tend to switch my broadband every 12 months depends on deals. And so far the speed and wifi connection issues has been the worse with contact without a doubt. Since its an open term, i have decided to switch to another company.

            • @mrmoustacheman: The worst, we're on gigabit and getting around 200Mbps, had similar issues last time that clearly haven't been resolved, so back to Slingshot it is for us.

    • -1

      cg-nat = yuck

      • You obviously haven't seen the state of NZ ISPs lately, as they almost all use CGNAT.
The ones that don't (I think it's just QUIC & maybe Voyager now) cost more.
If CGNAT is an issue then request a static IP.

    • I'm also with Contact and on the 315 down/ 109 up plan. Currently i've got the Contact modem with the 2.4GHz and 5GHz options, and my own Asus router connected into the Contact modem via ethernet cable, also doing 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

The speeds I get on my phone, while in the same room as both routers are:

      Contact 2.4GHz: 70.5Mbps down / 92.5 Mbps up / 8ms ping / 76ms Jitter
      Contact 5 GHz: 293 Mbps down / 97.9 Mbps up / 8ms ping / 8ms Jitter

      Asus Ac86u 2.4GHz: 99.1 Mbps down / 92.9Mbps up / 8ms ping / 7ms Jitter
      Asus Ac86u 5Ghz: 290 Mbps down / 97.1Mbps up / 7ms ping / 3ms Jitter

Interestingly, once I go to the other end of the house (approx. 3 walls), the speeds are:

Contact 2.4GHz: 0.09Mbps down / 13.7 Mbps up / unregistered ping and Jitter (assume to slow hah)
      Asus Ac86u 2.4GHz: 87.9Mbps down / 81.8 Mbps up / 8ms ping / 74ms Jitter

      Contact 5.GHz: 128 Mbps down / 75.4 Mbps up / 7ms ping / 94ms Jitter
      Asus Ac86u 5GHz: 229 Mbps down / 96.6 Mbps up / 8ms ping / 3ms Jitter

      Looks like Contact's modem sucks.
