Netflix Payment Suddenly Removed - Glitch or...?

Have been enjoying the Turkish Netflix for some time now, especially after managing to add Wise card using VPN, but randomly this month have had an email saying the account is on hold and the same when I go to Netflix. Payment was due to come out today, but when I look there's now no payment method listed on the acc. Wise card still active and has been on the acc since March 23.

Anyone else having issues? Is this a random glitch or wondering if Netflix are doing some kind of sweep wiping payment methods off Turkish acc's in the hopes people can't/won't re-add payment and will have to use their correct country or something??

    And due to someone pointing out they'd been able to add their CC I tried again and can confirm it works if you go entirely via the TV with the remote - no txt code needed.

    • Damn just tried this but it won't let me add on the TV app, for me it just brings up a QR code to open the link and update via website

      • It pushes you to do this first.

        On my TV there was a fine print "enter via remote" or similar txt link below the QR Code (I think. It was a few weeks ago)

        • Weird. It looks like they updated the UI at some point - I can't add any payment at all now.

          I could possibly could do it at the time because my payment (gift cards) had expired and the UI had the pop up "add a payment method" screen. I'd you're going to end up using gift cards anyway it may be worth waiting until it expires and seeing if the pop up comes.

          Possibly I just got lucky between UI updates. I'll tell you on the 29th if it still works (there's only been one payment so far)

            So I got a grand total of one month on the new card. Appears they culled all overseas cards.

            I'll wait for the payment pop-up again. But I imagine they've fixed it.

            I won't be too surprised if they stop selling gift cards. Guess it depends on how reliant the average person in Turkey is on them vs a having a credit card.

            • @LupinS: And just to confirm what I'm sure you all know.

              Card removed, UI changed, vouchers still working.

              However… I noted that the voucher terms and conditions are MUCH more prominent now, and yes, allow for the cancelling of the account with no refund on credit. So, I would be doing it month to month at this point.

              I am still rather Sus on this. It appears they are ID'ing overseas account holders, possibly with the intention of killing off those accounts (or they could just start doing the shared account checking - I'd cancel straight away ;) ). So I'd be a little hesitant to add another NZ card using a txt service. They can easily tell the international cards from local ones (they could easily just block them all from working if they wanted - prob a local market reason they don't.)

    • Based on this post, I check my account and the payment method had been removed again (my subscription was still working and active until the end of the month). What worked for me was:
      1. Connect to Turkey using Windscribe VPN
      2. Log in to Netflix account and update credit card details
      - Note: It wouldn't let me enter the same Wise card details that I previously used on the account. I'm not sure if it was an issue with it being a Wise card, or if they've blacklisted that particular credit card number. Instead I just tried using my ASB credit card which it accepted and moved on to the SMS verification step.
      3. Use PingMe for SMS verification
      (a) Download PingMe
      (b) Add some credit to your account (choose "Recharge" and buy a few Coins)
      (c) Use the verification button at the bottom of the app. Select "Netflix" and "Turkey(+90)" and choose Next. It will provide a phone number to use.
      (d) Enter the phone number into Netflix and you'll get the verification code in the PingMe app. When I entered the verification code into Netflix I got a "try again later" error. I didn't want to resend a new SMS as this will quickly use up the PingMe credit, however after ~30 seconds I tried submitting the same verification code a second time and it worked.

      I now have my NZ credit card showing on my account. I guess I'll find out at the end of the month if it gets billed correctly.

      • Most of this worked for me, except I didn’t know how to use PingMe the first time, I asked Netflix to send a second code and now it won’t accept that credit card. Will try again when I’m not on a phone.

        Did you use the free Windscribe Turkey vpn? Previously I had to pay for the premium turkey location because the free one didn’t give a turkey IP address.

        • In Windscribe I (randomly) chose "Istanbul Lygos". I have a Windscribe sub, so I don't know if that is the free option?

    I Just checked my account & Netflix has removed my card as well. When trying to add a new card and txt verify via pingme, it keeps saying invalid number.

    • I"m too scared to check - did you check because you got an email? Or you randomly checked?

      • I saw this forum post & decided to check. have tried VPN & other methods to reactivate but been unsuccessful. :(

    I never got around to loading my card to Netflix.
    Gift cards from Turgame are still working so will stick with that I think.

    • Ive moved on from the Turgame gift card payment method, seems to be taking monthly payments OK so far from my loaded Amex (have not tried to change CCs).

    If you know someone that pays for netflix and only you need it you could always explore adding yourself as a extra member of a household for $8/mo on top of their existing plan..

  • Same, just checked and my payment details are all gone. Last payment was 6 January so must have been deleted after.

    Tried to open on my tv app but no option to update payment. Any suggestions?

    Tried loading Westpac CC via browser but this requires txt verification to a Turkish mobile.
    1. Download PingMe app.
    2. Added $2.69 credit ( in USD.. must have been 1.5usd)
    3. Tried about 8 times last night to send a txt to the temporary Turkish number but Netflix kept saying "unavailable at this time" or similar. I kept refreshing the PingMe number too and eventually got a message asking to try later.
    4. Tried again this morning while turning on Surf shark VPN and it worked first time.

        From what I read, they're hunting down CA/US/Polish account for now. Some with gift cards also got deactivated and they're battling refunds to no avail.

    (copied from reddit thread) I got the same issue today. Netflix removed my payment card. What I did and it worked:

    1. Access Netflix on my mobile phone
    2. Connected to Turkey via Windscribe
    3. Clicked to add payment method
    4. They asked my for Turkish phone. I used PingMe(bought 1 coin)
    5. Sms received and payment accepted
    6. Switch off VPN and enjoy Netflix :)

    So ended up using the gift card method to continue the subscription.

  • Repeating my post from the Netflix Turkey deal discussion - I did it this way and saved $1.50 on PingMe :)

    1. Cancel Netflix account
    2. Reactivate Netflix account in NZ. Entered my credit card details (Amex) so they were stored on my account. Paid for first month in NZD
    3. Cancelled account via online chat and asked for refund which they did. Told them my wife set up a new account when my one stopped working and now we have two accounts but only need one.
    4. Bought voucher from Turgame
    5. Login to Netflix NZ
    6. Activate VPN set to Istanbul (and verified through WhatIsMyIPAddress dot com). Had to flick Surfshark on and off a few times for it to register properly
    7. Go to the Netflix Turkiye redeem page. Entered the voucher, Went through the process and pressed skip when they asked for credit card details

    It seems to work fine. I've turned off my VPN and it still works. I've watched it on my TV and that works fine too. All my profiles and history are intact.

    • Yes this will work fine until your card expires - if you can be bothered.

      It is looking suspiciously like they are IDing accounts with cards not issued in Turkey though.

    • Assuming some point for steps 1-3? if you're reactivating with a turkey gift card it does not matter if you cancel or just reactivate?

      I can add in a gift card right now without cancelling or VPN but I've heard people resubbing are getting paused again some days later.

      How long have you been resubbed?

      • I've always just entered gift cards by the site or app - I've never needed to use my VPN bar on sign up (but still generally do).

        I was able to load my CC last payment by letting it expire, getting the "no payment" box on my TV - which also gave an option to enter my card by remote, which required no txt confirmation.

        Next payment is the 29th. I'll post back when it goes out or doesn't.

        The point of steps 1-3 is that now you have a NZ credit card stored on your account which is billed after the gift card runs out (instead of needing to keep topping up with more gift cards).

        It seems like more effort than using PingMe, but could be a useful alternate method for those having difficulty loading their credit card onto their account.

      • Yup steps 1-3 are to get a NZ credit card for future payments loaded on the account.

        Resubbed 8 days ago and all good so far

        I guess you could perpetually use gift cards but either you buy one once a month (hassle) or buy a whole lot in advance (risk Netflix shutting down your account rendering a bunch of gift cards useless)

        Netflix on my Panasonic TV only gives me a QR code to go and pay my account on another device so I can't enter CC details that way

        PingMe is less "cheapies" than the way I used. Plus the last time I used PingMe was a bit of a rigmarole and it took me a few goes to get a phone number which worked. Also PingMe is a Russian company so I feel conflicted to use them even though I'm illegally bypassing Netflx's rules haha

          I'm just going to go gift card route for now as I assume they are checking the country of origin CC against the IP address and looking up the account region.

          Please continue to share if any changes i.e. any further cancellations.

          • @Trenchard: Just an update I went a whole month on gift card no cancellations.
            I did my second gift card yesterday (200TRY) and billing is until March 28th, which is 2 days after the turkey price hike starting on March 26th.

  • So if you are still getting the "(insert name), we just added a movie you might like" emails from Netflix, safe to assume there are no issues with the account?
    People that got the notification, do you still keep getting Netflix general notifications for new content added?

    I tried to log in and see payment details but for some reason keep saying incorrect password, so I just left it and didn't want to try reset password or anything and screw something up.

    When I try log into the account page, would I have to log in with Turkey VPN or accessing account page from NZ is fine?
    Last payment was taken out a week ago

  • Also received email today saying account on hold, my ASB card has been removed, try to add asb/wise again unsuccessful. Bought netflix gift card on turgames.com and redeemed now showing my next renew is a month from now on but still can't watch it due to account on hold. There are also people on reddit with a lot of credit balance but account on hold.

      Stupid, but that's all you should need to do.

    **Just a note to anyone who wants to add their credit card WITHOUT a Turkish number, or the hassle of doing something like PingMe to get one…

    Go to their help page.

    Start a chat with customer service.

    Ask them "Do you have a form I can fill out with my credit card details?"

    They asked for my account email and last 4 digits of my phone number associated with Netflix for verification (didn't seem to matter that it was the NZ number on my account).

    A box will pop up over the chat, enter in your credit card details.

    Hit submit.

    Should go through, and it won't ask you for a phone number.

    I have read you're geolocked for 30 days to Turkey, but I haven't checked my own one yet. And one more note - don't know if it matters but I was connected to Turkey on the VPN when I initiated the chat and entered my CC details.

      • Surfshark, but I also use Windscribe (paid)

        Have tested without the VPN on my phone and it doesn’t seem geolocked. Fingers crossed it’s not

        • nope, used my AMEX. my wise card would not work (technical issue).

    • Thanks ollie, I had the same issue and is now sorted following your advice. My wise card didnt work but I tried again using a NZ Visa and was all good. I used nord vpn.

      I followed the above steps to the tee and did the live chat. I was connected to Turkey via ShufShark VPN as well. The guy "Dilip" asked for my Turkey phone number. He didn't accept the already registered number saying it wasn't from Turkey but NZ. He asked me if I was ever in Turkey. I lied and said yes in 2020 when I signed up but since then moved to NZ. He said that was account was flagged as using the service outside the registered country & then proceeded to tell me off for paying through an account that wasn't NZ since I currently live here. He gave me 2 options, cancel the account and restart with NZ Payment or close the chat and try to fool them again and then be banned from Netflix! So am now paying full NZ Price :(

      Any1 else face this as well?
