Our bills with Contact were about 1/3 more than with Frank Energy. And $100 credited had GST taken out so not much of a big deal . My personal experience though

    • Same here. Frank is cheaper accross the board

We signed up to their broadband deal, and couldn't wait for the month to be over. Their broadband is horrendous and the customer support team has no idea what they're doing.

That's what happens when you voluntarily give them a monopoly of your services.

They don't care that their internet services are bad, because their ISP services are supplementary to their main power business (and the ISP is probably outsourced.) Why properly compete with real ISP companies when you can do an outsourced half-assed job that just has to be slightly more convenient than switching power+ISPs.

This is why power companies don't offer internet services separately; you must always bundle with their power/gas because that's the whole point - keeping the customer reliant on you by creating greater barriers to move away.

Because when you do, not only do you have to organize changing power companies, suddenly you also have to organize changing your internet provider because it's contingent on you having a power contract with Contact. You will probably not have access to the Internet for a few days while Contact mucks around, unless you time/overlap the connection to the new ISP correctly.

For most people, they would probably be happy to pay an extra $1 a day to not have to go through the effort of doing double the work/effort it usually takes because humans are lazy. That's a $1 cooperate win!

Also lol at the corpo gaslighting of "bundle your utilities in a single bill!" how is that even helpful in this day and age; are we still paying with cheques or what?
