Closure of AA Smartfuel, Kathmandu Summit Club, Warehouse Christmas Club

Got emails today from all three today advising they're closing their programmes

  • Summit Club ends 'soon'
  • AA Smartfuel ends 31 January
  • Warehouse Christmas Club ends 31 December

Anyone have any insight into what's going on - wonder if there's some changing legislations impacting them.

  • Kathmandu Summit club has been replaced right? Now called out there rewards. https://www.cheapies.nz/node/42693

I'm guessing AA Smartfuel has decided they're no longer feasible. Countdown stopped offering AA rewards I think. Edit: ITheir partnership is ending early 2024. Coutndown will have a new loyalty program with their woolworths rebrand . https://www.countdown.co.nz/info/news-and-media-releases/202…

    • That makes sense - just seemed strange all announced on the same morning, but maybe just a coincidence.

  • I am curious to see how this will pan out. I'm a serious Purepfofile user and I claim fuel discounts on the regular through my rewards. Wonder how this will affect their reward system.

An important announcement regarding the AA Smartfuel programme: Effective 31 January 2024

    Hi,

In light of the recent changes to the loyalty landscape in New Zealand, a full review of the AA Smartfuel programme was undertaken.

As a result of this review, it has been decided that the AA Smartfuel programme will end permanently effective 11.59pm 31 January 2024. This means that the final date to earn and redeem AA Smartfuel discounts is 31 January 2024, and any AA Smartfuel discounts earned in the month of January 2024 will need to be redeemed by 31 January 2024.

Until then, AA Smartfuel continues as usual and you can keep using the AA Smartfuel programme as you do today at all participating retailers including bp, GAS and Countdown.

AA will announce plans for their Members in due course.

Please also take the time to read the FAQs on our website for more information on what this means for you and the AA Smartfuel programme.

I would like to thank you all for your loyalty over the last twelve years. As one of New Zealand’s most popular and successful loyalty programmes, myself and the AA Smartfuel team are immensely proud that our partner village of more than 1200 retailers has helped Kiwis earn over one billion dollars in fuel discounts.

    Yours sincerely,

    Scott Fitchett,

Looks like Countdown (Woolworths) and BP will be in partnership with the new Everyday Rewards

    Kia ora,

Everyday Rewards is coming 1 February 2024

We are launching a new loyalty programme early next year that will replace Onecard and we’re proud to announce bp as our foundation partner.

    How it’ll work

Everyday Rewards has been designed to be as hassle-free as possible with an easy-to-understand 1-for-1 points system that you’ll be familiar with from Onecard, where every $1 spent at Woolworths earns 1 reward point.

At bp, you will earn 1 reward point for every litre of fuel and $1 spent at the bp shop, wildbean cafe or on bp car washes. Members will be able to unlock a further ‘always-on’ cents off per litre discount alongside other benefits each time they swipe their Everyday Rewards card.

An enhanced Boost offer programme and more opportunities to earn across our partner network will mean you’ll be able to reach 2000 points faster and get a $15 voucher to use at your choice of Woolworths or bp.

We want to give our members the ability to double the value they receive today. On average, where members may have received a couple of vouchers a year with Onecard, they’ll now be able to get a voucher every month by taking advantage of their personalised Boost offers.

We’ll announce even more partners in the coming months so stay tuned!

    What this means for you

We’ve made it really simple. Until 31 January 2024, you can collect Onecard points or cents per litre discounts and redeem rewards as normal.

Your current Onecard points will automatically be converted to Everyday Rewards on 1 February.

We’re excited to be bringing you even more value in 2024. Until then, keep an eye on your inbox for the latest news about Everyday Rewards and more information can be found here.

    Ngā mihi nui,

    Spencer Sonn
    Managing Director

    • I think that Z/Caltex has been quite good with the similar 'Pumped' discounts, especially when linking Flybuys points to it, and also the savings you can get via Sharetank at Z.

Perhaps BP has noticed reduced revenue with more people going to Z, and have decided to up their game with reward offerings to get people back.
