  • I've been using Unraid for a few years now, and their AMD APU passthrough support for VMs is pretty bad. I'm stuck on 6.9.2 which was the last working version for me.

    • Just started building mine on Intel. Still gathering things and making backups before I shutdown my existing Windows server. Just bought basic license.

  • How good it against free open media vault solution?

    • Some of the comments in this reddit sums it up.

      1. For me, as a windows user and very little knowledge on linux, I prefer Gui to control
      2. usb drive for OS, frees up a sata port for additional storage.
      3. different size of disks in array.
      4. multiple cache pools
      5. VM & docker support from gui (main thing for me)
      6. plugins with active community supporting it. Yes others do as well.

Maybe more or less. It might have downsides as well. I am more after media server, home assistant, storage & backup. So I felt this was the way to go after some research.

Edit: I have perfectly running windows server with all that I need in multiple VMs. Just wanted to move from windows as updates takes my server down for awhile and I haven't figured out all the automations on starting everything back up after restart. Plus don't need windows as everything on that server runs in VM, so rather move those to unraid and save on power, have a reliable system in the end.
