Tip for ordering from Countdown online:

If you create an order now for sometime next week, you can edit it everyday adding each days daily deals, taking advantage of every deal in the same order. This also works for normal specials, ordering on Sunday with one weeks specials and editing it on Monday with the next weeks specials.

    • Now all we need is some new voucher to test this. I try to ask for online order voucher from customer service before but all I get is there is no valid voucher at the moment

    • Dang - this is an amazing tip. You have to place the order though correct (not just create)? And then edit it on the day/week accordingly before the cut off time?

      • Yes that is correct, you have to place and pay for your order. The cutoff time is normally on the morning of the pickup day, before that you can add or remove anything and your original order is locked in at the prices when you placed your order.

        • if you remove items, do you get refunded then?

so all we need to do to meet the $50 threshold, is

add the specials, add some things to go over $50,

          next day
remove the fillers, add some specials to go over $50
          etc etc

pick up specials, with as little fillers as possible to go over $50

          • @justaddwater: You do get refunded when you remove items but you can only order ~6 days ahead (at my local store anyway). So you can only access sales from 2 different weeks.

Countdown’s Pick up service is FREE for all orders over $50. Pick up orders below $50 will be charged a $5 service fee.

any tips to get around this.

you wouldnt be to add and REMOVE items awaiting pickup would you?

      • You can remove items from the awaiting pickup, even remove it and add it straight back again if the price has decreased. If you dip below the $50 threshold, the pickup fee is charged.

        • Can you cancel the order and get full refund before the cutoff time/pickup day?

I tried to do this to my order placed on Sunday for pick up Tuesday - on Monday went to edit order to add the 1 day deal of chips but a warning box come up letting me know that if I edit my order on the Monday all prices in my cart will change to this week's prices. You may be able to get away with it for the 1 day deals if they don't revert pricing each day but from week to week it seems you have to forego previous specials.

    • Are you sure coz i remember that if you edit then the prices become what it is for the day, so like adding baked beans but if you edit Saturday, baked beans will be the price it is Saturday and not the $3 for 3

Unless these daily deal prices remain this whole week

      • 100% not the case. PAK'nSAVE behaves as you describe, but Countdown retains the price as it was when you edit your order.

        • Cheers. Might have to give this a go.
          Great tip.

        • oh cool makes it easy then cheers

Thanks for sharing, great deals there. Also that excellent tip for online ordering - you're a true cheapie :-P

  • alpine butter has anyone tried this, does it taste like normal butter

    • I find it's similar to pns one. Didn't seem much difference to me. I buy whichever is cheapest.

    • Butter is pretty regulated on what the composition would be. Fat content must be >80%, I can see that it happens to have exactly the same fat% as Anchor and Mainland butter so wouldn't be surprised if made in the same plant.

      • I have never found any butter to be very different from any other (the 'real butters' at least, excluding the ones that mix in vegetable oil or other cheaper ingredients).

        • Some label their butter "Premium" though, eg. Lewis Road, I wonder if they taste better, but I'm not going to pay 2x+ the price to try…haha

            @akrotohur: That’s called Marketing.
Easiest way to try and command a higher price.

Yep - as the GrandeFromage says, it is marketing.

Their butter really don't taste better, but if you have paid through the nose for it, and you know you aren't a fool, then it must taste better, and you need to make sure everyone else knows it too, so that they don't think you are a fool.

Grandma always told them that, 'You get what you pay for', which is almost never true, but they believed her at the time, and find it hard to let go, even when they realise that Grandma was actually pretty dumb about such things.

            • +3

              @Alan6984: Fromage est masculin.

              • @sunshinenz: 👨🧀

              • @sunshinenz: Tres bien, mon petit

                • @cruelsummer2: Just wanted to point out that it should be grand fromage instead of grande, because cheese is masculine in French.

                  • @sunshinenz: I think you are making all sorts of assumptions that may, or may not, be correct, but then so was I, so who am I to cast stones into the murky pool that is our favourite cheesy.

On the other hand, I defer to your more intimate knowledge of French genders (or should that be gendarmes?)

                  • +1

@sunshinenz: Yes, I totally understand as I know a bit of French as well :). It's a bit tricky coz most French nouns ending with 'e' is feminin, but there are exceptions of course.

  • My local countdown sold out of these by 11am today so i missed out :-(

    • i fear the chicken and the beer will sell out quick,my local has supplied less now which adds to the scarcity

    • I tried adding the whole chicken at 10 am but it had sold it. Just logged in again at 1 pm and it's back in stock

  • FYI I asked for a rain check at customer service desk and got one :)

  • Images for the last three days have been removed.

    • I reckon it was a mistake to put them out early, the Tuesday image was only published ~5pm on Monday, so I was pretty surprised to see the rest of the week published all at once on Tuesday.

      • +2

Maybe they're cracking down on it as I think some people copied your links and share it on other social media or group

  • I went down to my local countdown and they only had say 7 chickens left on the shelf but the lady said they have about another 10 out back and once they sold thats it same with the spaghetti and baked beans they had yesterday.

    • +1

yeah the amount of the baked beans promo at my local store is simply not enough. Could have been all sold out in just minutes.

      • +1

I understand they are required to have a reasonable supply when running promotions or people should be able to ask for rainchecks, according to the commerce commission website.

        https://comcom.govt.nz/business/dealing-with-typical-situati…

        • Hopefully they get called out for being sneaky. It's misleading if a "one day" sale sold out within hours of the stores opening.

  • @Jamie12345: My local countdown sold out of these by 11am today so i missed out :-(

For the whole chicken, I am currently seeing 'not available online', but maybe that would always be the case for fresh chicken (unrelated to it being on special today)?

I've never tried ordering fresh chicken online for click and collect, so not sure.

    • If you change store then you'll possibly see the chicken in stock. Some of my locals are out of stock, some are not.

      • What happens if I add it to my online order while showing a different location - does it still get added, or perhaps just not possible?

Might have to try it a bit later.

        • Now just showing as 'out of stock' at all the CD stores I tried, so can't test it.

If anyone knows a store with stock, please post, and I will re-try.

        • You can't edit an order and add from a different store. Your store choice is locked while editing an order.
