Intel Core i3 12100F CPU $99.00 (Was $215.00) + Shipping ($0 with Primate) @ Mighty Ape

211

Upcoming sale with early access through Primate, the regular price is lower elsewhere but this still appears to be a good deal.

12th gen is a significant step forwards from 10th/11th gen so even the i3 is quite capable.

This could be pared with the Maxsun Challenger H610M-D Motherboard which should be on sale for $109 at the same time.

  • Is the motherboard good?

Also can i use my ddr4 ram on this?

    • motherboard should be ok, i wouldnt use it for anything more than a i3
      *Memory support: DDR4 dual slot

      • +1

Cool, gonna build some 1080p systems with left over parts i have laying around

Just wasn't to familiar with Intel namings my last one was the i5-2500K 😅

      • I think a stock i5 would also be fine, but unlocked i5s and anything higher might be pushing it. They would probably still work but be power limited and maybe reduce the lifespan of the board.

  • +7

Do remember 12100f doesn't have integrated graphics so you will need a graphics card.

  • Running i3 8100 (24/7) since 2017 don't feel like I need to change.

    Can I use ddr4 2400 with this?

    • +1

12th gen still supports ddr4, just check the motherboard - the one linked in the description uses ddr4

    • +1

For your comparison, I3-8100 is about 6.1K cpu marks (benchmark) and the 12100F is 14.1K. No comparison really.

Admittedly, i'm still using a I7-4770K which benchmarks about 1K higher than yours but it's definitely showing its age now.

      • It's running fine. Maybe another 6 months and will see that time.

Was going to buy CPU+Mobo+Ram for my dad as his computer died two days ago. Great timing, i3-12100F + Maxsun 610M + Nectec 16gb DDR4 ram adds up to less than $300 is a great bargain!

    • +2

A nice little build. As others mentioned, just make sure you have a cheap graphics card to get a display out.

      • +3

Existing graphics card still alive :) GTX970

    • You would need a graphics card I think

        Graphics still alive, GTX970

You're better off getting something better or something cheaper from used FB Market/Trademe, if you only need desktop/media output

Can use $10 off $60+ coupon with multiple accounts?

      • +1

probably, but how many are you gonna do lol

      • I imagine so, but if you use 10 accounts with the same card/address/device/network it might raise some flags and get them all cancelled 😂

        • +1

          Use wise.

          • @ace310: Wise Limited to 3x Digital, so you'll have to delete and spinup new ones, but then what if they need to refund you 🤔

          • @ace310: Did your 10 cpu/mb combo's ship 😂

            • @Huntakillaz: I skipped the deal 😂, so others can have better chance of getting it.

              • @ace310: aww should have gotten 1-2 at least.

                • @Huntakillaz: I never meant to get multiple. I suggested to order each parts separate with the coupon so save $10 off each pc part.

Edit: Now thinking at it, I should have got atleast 1.

      • I had to verify my address before they shipped my order with the last new account i created. Might be random but something to keep in mind

        • could order the parts on different days . Haha

          patience is a virtue

    • Does the motherboard support a M.2 2280 NVMe?

      • Yea, it's below the top PCIE slot.

        • Thanks, do you know if a 1tb NVMe will work?

    • really don't think you need 32GB ram to go with a entry level i3

      • Can go

$83 - RAM - 16GB Netac Shadow II Dual RAM Kit
        https://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/16gb-netac-shadow-ii-ddr…

but for $37 for double the ram is not bad for anything in future you want to do/need

      • Depends what u do with it.
I was doing some geospatial data mapping which needed that extra head room, but yeah, 32gb is only needed depending on use case.

        • Most people buying a i3 don't need more than 16GB ram

          • @kyogui: These new i3's are pretty quick and 16gb is starting to show it's age. I had problems playing hogwarts legacy due to having 16gb 2666 ram paired with i5 10400f + 2080s. This i3 is probably better than my chip for gaming

          • @kyogui: Some ppl maybe a tab hoe like me, with my firefox and 300+ tabs running in the background
10-15GB taken by that alone 😅

            • @Huntakillaz: No problem if you know what you need, but for most people looking for a very budget build they shouldn't be give the impression that they need 32GB ram. Eventhough it's only $37 more but i would give alternative build for a i5 if money could be saved here and there, once you ended up buying the i3 it's very unlikely you will upgrade to a i5 of the same gen later.
I always had i7s in my PC and i only recently upgraded to 32GB for the very first time and i never felt 16GB wasn't enough.

              • +1

@kyogui: If i were to give every option for a budget build this page would be long as, also once someone commented I couldn't edit so i gave up

You could say a budget build is 8gb ram and Rx580 for minecraft, fortnite at low settings and even 16gb would then be overkill

You could say a budget build wouldn't spend $120 on a psu just buy something in the $80 range that last 3yrs

You could say a budget build also get away with RX6400/GTX1650 and save ~75/100
                https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/VGAMSI5150050/MSI-NVIDIA-Ge…

See what i mean, there's no set criteria and set amounts "budget" meets, to someone like Bezoz a 2million dollar house is budget
Also I said Budget Beast not very budget

      • You need it if you are planning to run multiple VMs. I have 19gb used out of 24gb currently on my 8th gen i3.

        • And you think most people browsing a deal for a cheap i3 here will do that too?

          • @kyogui: Well so I said if you are planning to run VMs. By the way I will happily take this cheap i3 to replace mine if it was showing age, but it seems to be running fine.

i3 are one of the most power efficient intels out there and ideal for a cheap 24/7 server/nas. It's good to have options out there.

  • any other good deals
    and deals on switch games?

  • Oh cool, I've been looking at upgrading from my decrepit 4th gen i5 system, so this will do very nicely

  • Need a pc and monitor for work/study

    • Do you need a top of the line PC or a basic one?

      • basic with big screens/dual screen

  • This looks like an alright deal for a 2TB nvme ssd $145

Also for those that are downvoting me in the comments, I can't change the post once someone comments, soo the cooler and stuff is stuck there.
if you didn't understand how the comment system works here and are downvoting me for trying to be helpful 😭

they are all just options, one of many out there to help people build a cheap pc.

Maybe i should just report myself and not help people…

    • Nah leave it up. It'll be helpful to someone and they will likely see the other comments anyway

  • $97 A520m board for AMD builds:

CPUs are cheaper elsewhere though. Check pricespy for those

Is the Intel Core i3 12100F CPU still $99? It's showing as $215 for me.

    • i guess too many people where buying it so they changed back to 215.00

  • $215 now.

    • +1

Report feature can be used for expired deals :) as others have done by now

      • +1

How exactly do you do this?

        • Click on the report link on top, just below the expiry date. You will see how that works

  • Anyone got a spare Maxsun Challenger H610M-D Motherboard they don't need?

Also do you need those CPU brackets or or they for high end cpus only to stop the bend?

    • By bracket do you mean the plate that goes under the motherboard when mounting large tower heatsinks.

That is not needed you want need a back plate.

The heat sink fan combo has a little label you peel off the thermal pad and then you just push down and clip it in. Watch a video.

      • nah meant the anti bend contact frame, but have been told it's not needed

        • Ok cool. In just installed a CPU myself for the first time in 5+ years and it made a crunch sound. Made me feel a little nervous, but I knew that sometimes you hear that sound when it clamps down.

          • @kiwijunglist: haha same, god damn felt like I was gonna snap the board, they really need to come up with a better system. Also the got rid of the cable holder on the cpu, 🤦‍♂️

  • If anyone ordered an Intel Core i3 12100F CPU &Maxsun Challenger H610M-D Motherboard they don't need, I'd be keen to buy - I just missed out on this deal.

    • regarding MB:

Got this yesterday "Regarding the Maxsun Challenger H610M-D Intel LGA1700 mATX Motherboard - we have some of these on order and should have more stock in the next 2-3 weeks. In this instance, you may find our "Wish List" feature useful."

dunno if it'll be same price still, alternative would be this:
