Purchase any MG ZS EV Essence, ZS EV Long Range or HS PHEV & Receive Additional $2000 on Top of Clean Car Rebate @ MG Motor

80

Notable as the MG ZS EV Excite is NZ's cheapest equal new pure electric vehicle (With the GWM Ora). This ‘additional rebate’ brings the higher trim model price down to just $2k above that. Sadly the base Excite trim is not included in this deal.

Purchase any MG ZS EV Essence, ZS EV Long Range or HS PHEV before 30 June and receive an additional $2000 on top of your clean car rebate. T&C's Apply.
To book a test drive, visit www.mgmotor.co.nz"

Clean car rebate is $8625 on pure EV's & $5750 on plug in hybrids

MG ZS EV EXCITE: $49,990 +ORC - $8625 = $41,365 + ORC (no discount on this model, for comparison only)

MG ZS EV ESSENCE: $53,990 +ORC - $8625 - $2000 = $43,365 + ORC

MG ZS EV LONG RANGE: $64,990 +ORC - $8625 - $2000 = $54,365 + ORC

MG HS PLUG-IN HYBRID EXCITE: $52,990 + ORC - $5750 - $2000 = $45,240

MG HS PLUG-IN HYBRID ESSENCE: $56990 + ORC - $5750 - $2000 = $49,240 + ORC

Basic overview of the MG ZS EV:

Smallish SUV (4.323m long), FWD, 130kW (115kW on Long range), 320km WLTP range (440 on long range), 500kg tow rating, LFP battery - highly durable, no issues charging to 100% each day (NMC battery for long range), Vehicle to load (2400W max)

Haven't been in the current, post face-lift version, but have been in the pre facelift. General impression is that while the build quality isn't as good as my Japanese cars, it is adequate (Bonnet sat 2mm prone etc). Person in my extended family that owns one has been satisfied with it. Quite decent back seat and boot space for the size of the vehicle. A Scandinavian youtuber (Bjorn Nyland) managed to fit 8 banana boxes in the boot with the back seat up, which is on par with, for example the much larger Kia EV6.

On trim level's, Things the Essence gets that the Excite doesn't:

Blind spot detection, Rear Cross traffic Alert, 40kg more Kerb weight (so payload decreases from 490kg to 450kg), 6 speaker audio (vs 4 speaker), PU/PVC seat (vs fabric), Sunglass box, seat back map pockets, wireless phone charger, electronically folding mirrors (vs manual folding), Roof Rails, Rain sensing wipers, drivers electric adjustable seat, front seat heating

Long range gets all the Essence stuff, and Rear privacy glass. 10kg heavier than Essence, but GVM is increased too, so payload stays at 450kg

Personally think the Excite and Essence offer great value, But think the Long range is too expensive. Even with this $2000 discount it comes in more expensive than the BYD Atto3 extended range offers better value: similar (420km WLTP) range, but much more power (150kW), faster DC charging, more tow rating (750kg) & LFP battery chemistry. That is of course, assuming you are OK with the weird interior and low payload (410kg) of the Atto3

Don't know much about the MG HS.

On ORC, I have heard of two people not getting charged any, and one person getting charged $1500, so might be worth phoning around dealerships if you are interested in this car.

  • I have the MK1 ZS EV. Good little car with some annoying bits. Cruse control does not use the regen to brake (same with this new MK2 I believe) and the display/head unit is buggy (fixed/changed for MK2 I believe). V quick off the mark.

    • For others reading, note that pre-facelift car got a 105kW motor, the post-facelift Standard range versions get 130kW, so should be even quicker.

      • The MK2 has more power but less torque. The MK1 has mad acceleration and is v keen to chirp up the tyres lol.

      What!? That's a bizarre flaw

      • Yeah bizarre aye! They just cheaped out and use the same system as is on their ICE models. Sucks cause obviously you want to use it on long trips etc but then you loose that sweet regen.

  • Just got back from a month in the UK visiting family and we had the MG HS as a hire car for the month.

Nice car, very spacious for a family of 4 but man the build quality is not the same the likes of Mazda/Toyota. We also had some annoying glitches such as it refusing to go into reverse when trying to get into a parking bay and it stalling a few times when pulling away, which in an automatic is a first for me. Also didn't like that if you want to adjust the air-con you have to do it via the touchscreen which if you are using sat nav removes that from the screen. Frustrating.

  • A gentle reminder that MG is now owned by SIAC a Chinese state-owned automobile manufacturer i.e. all MG's are now (basically) Chinese Communist Party (CCP) mobiles.
It's kinda like when Volkswagen was run by Nazis in the 1930's?

  • EV Clean Car Rebate changing from 1st July. Now reduced from $8,625 to $7,015.
