Auckland to Manila, Philippines from $820 Return on China Southern (Including Luggage) [May to Aug] @ Beat That Flight

170

I'm liking these. Full service airline, only one stop, enroute to the Philippines!

Skytrax rates China Southern a 4-star airline

While Manila is fun for a couple of days, if a tourist I recommend getting out to the islands. Palawan was our choice and it was incredible, especially up near El Nido. The Blue Palawan in Puerta Princesa was also pretty fantastic. Actually, I recommend the three places we stayed:

  • Blue Palawan, Puerta Princesa - a lovely place to lounge about for a few days by the pool, and the staff are very helpful with organising anything at all.
  • Best Western Plus The Ivy Hotel - yes it's a Best Western, but the Plus is key, the pool and buffets were fantastic, and very close to the airport.
  • Aqua Travel Lodge in El Nido - cheap and cheerful, it was VERY close to the beach and with plenty of nearby eateries, plus surprisingly good breakfasts with local cuisine.

Example Dates: 1 May 23 - 13 Aug 23

  • Thanks for this! Love your work! Any cheap flights December or January Auckland to Manila?

    • I was scanning around then too ,but not as cheap as this, the deal is only on until August. However, other airlines are available. One really good trick if you're ok with low cost carriers is to keep an eye out for a Cebu Pacific sale from Sydney/Melbourne, like $270-$350 return at times, and then you line up a Jetstar/AirAsia return flight to meet those flights in Aus.

Always worth having a search though at https://bookings.beatthatflight.com.au/

  • Before booking, keep in mind that summer ends in June. Befoe that, it will be BLAZING HOT like it is now.
I'm currently in the Philippines and its in the low 40s during the day.

    • I think generally the islands are a bit more acceptable? https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/ph/el-nido looks ok.
I was there in September tho, so cooler.

    • Have been this time of year before. Man do we miss the direct (fuel stop cairns), and the
nonstop route that existed before the pandemic.

It' very hot for sure, but i suspect your numbers are off. Not sure where you are, but record high for Manila is 36.2 C

      • My numbers are from accuweather's Real Feel
        https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.accuweather.com/en/weather-…

And I was in Quezon City, Cabanatuan, and Balanga.

It had been unseasonably hot last week and everybody I talked with agreed. Good thing the weather is cooling down a bit.

I lived in the Philippines until I was 30 years old so I have a fair bit of expertise lol

        • That makes sense. Real Feel is not the actual temperature, but rather a value Accuweather has created to "tell people how conditions really feel"

Today in Quezon City has a High of 33 Deg C (But a real feel of 41 Deg C).

          • @scott: the humidity and stickiness factors tend to push the numbers up I think haha

  • Thanks,

What the best island around Phillipines to stay. Considering i have got 2 under two and flights to manila is too long so dont want to take another complicated/long flight.

    • It's a very quick hop to Palawan (Puerto Princesa airport) and then you can get around by shuttle bus easily enough. It's also very beautiful. I gather Cebu and Boracay are also lovely but I've not been to those. We loved Palawan, would totally go back to El Nido!

    • Boracay is amazing, but a bit or a process to get to. Fly from manila to MPH (1hr 5mins), then a shuttle (10min), Boat (20min) & another shuttle (15min) to get to your resort.

Note that Manila airport often has a queue to push back & take off, so not unusual to be an hour + late getting away.

Also, note that Manila has 4 airport terminals. The public roads nearby are very congested, so going between terminals by taxi might be very time consuming, however I think there is an airside bus service using the airports private roadways. Make sure you have a few hours if you are going to do a terminal transfer anyway.

  • Thank you for posting amazing deals. Quick question on this one, me and my wife want to book but there is a chance we may need to cancel. We saw that the flex fare is $1021, which is still a good deal. It says $55 nzd cancellation fee, does that apply per flight for China southern. So in this case it is 4 flights, would it be $220 per person to cancel? Or $55 for the entire ticket?. Thanks in advance.

    • It'll depend very much on the OTA (online travel agency) you choose from the search results. Each has their own rules. I would presume it's per booking, but unfortunately I'm not a travel agent, I just find the cheap prices, and BeatThatFlight is more like a search engine for flights, you then click through to mytrip or gotogate or other.

      Hope that helps a bit!

      • Thanks I checked on the China Southern Website and was booking direct through it and it said $55 nzd but wasn’t sure per flight or for the itinerary

  • Any deals to Perth around Sept / Oct period? TIA

  • Thanks @beatthatflight ! Cant do these dates but love seeing these coming through. Keep it up! Upvote

  • +1

Siargao, Coron, and Boracay are my suggestions. El nido is also one of the best too.

Some nice deals from MNL to Europe at the moment too.

  • Nice deals @beatthatflight! Have you ever flown on flights that stop over in China? Do you need transit visas? Airports over there generally okay for stopovers?

    • +1

I have (NZ passport) and transited in Beijing. Fine, but boring as a lot of internet is blocked (although Skype worked!).
My understanding is if you're there longer than 24 hours you might need some sort of visa, but obviously since covid all bets are off, best check the consulate website before travelling.

      • Thanks for the feedback! Will take note.
