Electricity Providers Comparison Sheet Incl Charges

Hi

Does anyone have an excel spreadsheet with all the electricity providers and their charges where one could just enter the usage and get how much it would cost. If yes, can you please share. Would be of great help not just to me but for many others too

Thanks in advance

    Prices different in every suburb

    • agree. just about to reply the same.

  • Money hub has one. You need to source your rates and input them as they might be different.

    • I haven't looked at the site, but do you how that works?

The price you get quoted can vary on different sides of the same street for any number of reasons.

Are they getting your address (maybe even better, the ICP(s) of your meters) and going out to every provider to get you a quote? If so, that would be superb.

      • No you have to do that yourself and enter it into the excel table along with your usage. They have prefilled the table with their numbers so some don't need to be changed.

        • Seems a bit odd to me, given the key figures would be rates per kWh, and those are the ones that can change street by street.

Just not sure how useful this could ever be, but I guess anything might be better than nothing perhaps.

            @Alan6984: https://www.moneyhub.co.nz/power-company-comparison.html
There is a video as well to explain how to use the spreadsheet

            • @Arsonist: Fair enough.

I think you would be well advised to check the pricing directly with any given provider, for your specific address, before signing up, and note that, it is possible that there could be better pricing available from another provider than is shown, since MoneyHub have only provided a single rate for each plan for the whole of Auckland (for example), whereas you can get different quotes for different addresses in Auckland from the same provider / plan. I acknowledge that it is possible that has changed recently though.

Regardless, even if you (unknowingly) signed up for the second best pricing available for your given address, it is still likely to be a 'good deal', even if not necessarily the 'best deal' available.

For me, I'm going to stick with getting quotes from each electricity retailer, specific to my address (ICP), as it is easily done of an evening sitting in front of the telly while others watch whatever junk is on at the time :-)

  • Try the powerswitch website

    • I found Powerswitch inaccurate when it came to low user plan comparisons. Despite entering exact monthly usage (peak and non-peak) the cheapest supplier wasn't accurate. It approximates a lot of things like daily peak/off peak, weekend use (normally all off peak) and usage throughout different times of the year. Be sure to check the FAQs https://www.powerswitch.org.nz/about which explains a number of the assumptions it makes.

  • I have a spreadsheet that I made up that will calculate the cost for me based off my last years usage. Not particularly well designed but gives me the answers I need. I can share it if someone can let me know how. Manually have to input all the rates offered by each provider after contacting them and trying to get them to compete seeing if they can beat the best offer.
I then get the a cost after any discounts and credits offered and GST etc.. I need to work on it now as I have had solar installed late last year so that brings even more variables into the equation.
I found powerswitch always had higher rates than what I was offered or was currently on.

  • There are a number of comparison websites around.

In additional to https://www.powerswitch.org.nz/ that was mentioned.

    https://switchme.co.nz/

    https://www.powercompare.co.nz/

    https://www.glimp.co.nz/

    useful reference,
But may not actually offer you the best deals though, as not all power companies are listed. For example, would miss the Contact referral offer or miss their website coupon codes , and the Z very generous referral offer https://www.cheapies.nz/node/31239
