Found both Fiji Airways and Air New Zealand have great prices at present to Japan. Fiji Airways tends to be cheaper, but the Air NZ ones are sometimes direct (if not codeshared through Taipei).

Singapore Airlines also shows up occasionally, so feel free to play around with dates. I've put in some of the best prices below.

    Does anyone know how much and the best way to visit Korea from Japan? My wife want's to visit both so I'm wondering if this deal sets it up good?

      You'll find different fares have different ticket rules. Some require return from the same airport, some sales still work with one way components, and some will allow a multi city with a return from any airport. You'll need to test some differing scenarios.

      Start by checking the prices for the dates you're interested in, checking Multi City as an option on the search. Compare it to what one way components or a baseline return flight costs. Google flights will be the fastest search engine to begin your search, but you can cross check with SkyScanner and Kayak.

        I'm new to multicity flights. Are there time restrictions on how long you can spend in those countries? Would multicity cover a week in korea then a week in japan return back to NZ?

          For that duration I'm sure it would if it was a promo that extended to covering multi city.
          Ultimately it depends on the fare rules. Sometimes fares are strictly return from the origin airport only and to do multi city suddenly they want full price and a different airline is cheaper. You'll just have to explore the different options.

          Side note, if you're not seeing an airline you'd expect to show up, use Google flights set to that airline only and look at the calendar for a one way or return leg - not multi city when discovering this, as most multi city searches don't support it. Doing this I could say Korean air appears to be Mon Wed Fri Sat out of Auckland , so day of the week matters. A few sites have calendar views or kayak has Been +-3 days search which helps discover these.

      I'd probably just fly from into Japan and then book a separate ticket to Korea. Plenty of airlines flying between them including a number of low cost carriers

      Try Peach Aviation. Pretty decent local carrier.

      Or if you'd like to do it in all one go.. Korean Air with a stop in Japan

      Search on korean air or sky scanner on one way and return to find best price, then use that date search multiple cities, akl to soul, soul to tokyo, you can buy one way ticket with korean air and come back with other airline, such as air nz.

    Flights are so expensive now :(

    Pre-Covid outbreak (literally Jan 2020) I got flights Chc -> Mel -> Bali -> Japan -> Mel -> Chc for about $1500

      The good old days of cheap travel. We booked AKL to NRT return for 2 for a total of $764.25 AUD in 2020, Covid stuffed it up though. Atleast we got a refund instead of a credit.

        It sucks, I'm sure they'll come back down with time though! We've got a trip to Phuket next month which was quite affordable, again, leaving via Melbourne (have family there so like to add the trip in and a lot of flights are cheaper from Aus). I think in total it was $750-$800 for Chc -> Mel -> Phuket -> Mel -> Chc.

        Such a shame Covid ruined your trip to Japan. We got there Jan 16 2020 and our flight from Australia got back I think Feb 6 2020, about 3 weeks later and we were in lockdown.. Hope you get back sometime

      Beat That Flight? They're basically just a search engine for flights, like Skyscanner. Plenty of history here: https://www.cheapies.nz/user/5906/nodes

      The OTAs that they link through to, well I've never had any issues with the ones I've used, but you need to do your research and make up your own mind whether you're comfortable booking with whatever company is selling the tickets.

      Beat That Flight is a search engine. Like kayak or google flights. Slightly different data sources/levels/pricing from our upstream providers, meaning we are sometimes cheaper than the others (and sometimes more expensive).

      All the prices on our site are on 3rd party online travel agents. I've personally used gotogate, mytrip, trip.com and edreams without issue. Others have different experiences with them based on a google search. Some of the sites use dark patterns - they may charge you hundreds for a name change, for example, whereas typos can usually be changed for free direct with an airline.

      As a result, if you use them, be careful, read everything, and enjoy the savings!

      We flew with them to LA. They were great, better than Air NZ as far as food and service goes. Their LA flights use the A350 which are really nice to fly on, whereas SFO and others still use the old A330s.
