  • They're really pushing these hard of late, huh

  • My local bunnings is already out of stock.

Top tip is to get a little stand from AliExpress for these. Raises them and gives much better control over angles etc.

  • Anyone interested in 3 of the glacier whites for $160 + ~$6 shipping?
Preferably urban Auckland as shipping gets wicked expensive everywhere else for some reason.

If so, I'll make a classified listing or something.

That solves a problem. I gold told off for only buying one from NL when they were $29. Not as good but the average price is still good for two now.

  • I missed the $29 pricing error, think I didn't notice it at all or maybe I did but it was expired so didn't pay much attention. Anyway got one from Westgate they still had at least one more in stock at around 1700 and hadn't adjusted in store price.

I'm mostly thinking of using it as a semi portable media play back device for Youtube and Twitch. Yeah I have my phone but although the Huawei P30 has a decent speaker for a phone it's still limited compared to this. I guess I could use a portable speaker but there are other advantages including have the video there while I use my phone and without a floating video plus the self standing ability seems useful. The lack of a battery does limit versatility somewhat, it seems people do make battery packs for it but doesn't seem worth it. Maybe I should have gotten more than one but I think I'll just move this around as needed.

Youtube works fine although since I'm fairly used to using Youtube Vanced on my phone bit jarring to start to see ads again :-P Good thing is I was able to login fine. I guess I could sign up for Youtube Premium India or something, or maybe set up a home server which bypasses them but don't think it's worth it.

Twitch is interesting considering both are Amazon. They seemed to have gotten rid of the Twitch skill which was supposedly US only anyway and I'm not sure it was that useful other than allowing voice commands which I don't care that much about. There's a third party skill for Twitch anyway, obviously matters a lot more for the Echo Dot/speaker only devices. Anyway like with Youtube, It opens the web browser which would be fine except that it seems to be impossible to login. It defaults to the mobile website which doesn't seem to support logins at all since they want you to use the app. And if you go to the desktop website you can't login since it's not a supported browser. The browser thing is recent https://twitter.com/twitchsupport/status/1575571090994102272 to try and cut down on hate raids but while their aims may be good, I find it very ironic they don't even support Amazon Silk. It's not that big a deal to me since most of the time I don't have subscriptions to the channels I watch so it won't help with ads but still….. https://www.amazonforum.com/s/question/0D56Q00008B67UESAZ/po…

The final irony is for various reasons my Amazon default store is set to the US. But I set my language to English NZ & Australia. What this means it refuses to browse products on Amazon since Amazon US only supports English US and Español. So one of their key money making propositions is cut off from me. There is no chance I'd actually use it but still it seems so daft. Okay while my case is probably common for Kiwis, it's rare worldwide. Still I assume it does mean that e.g. if your a Kiwi/Brit/Aussie living in the US and want your Echo to use your personal dialect you're SoL. The same if your an American living in some other English speaking country. (I'm not sure what happens if you have some other language as your primary. You can add additional languages but it doesn't seem to let me when I have NZ English as my primary.) I mean if they need to read out Amazon US in US English whatever but to insist you have to change your primary language?

  • The $69 deal at Noel Leeming is back and I don't think Bunnings has lowered their price even in store. However I think they might be very low stock at least in Auckland
