Bunnings does have the Charcoal at $77 currently if anyone wanted to try and get 15% off.
Would be $65.44 until they change the shelf price.

If they're (essentially) giving the product away, you are the service.

    • Yes essentially Amazon lost 13 billion US for providing servers and selling their hardware at cost. People aren't using Alex as Amazon business model was supposed to work. They still prefer logging into the computer and ordering stuff rather than Amazon AI.

      • Yes, and bezos has reportedly lost interest, department is getting cut, funding pulled.

  • Just be aware they might stop Alexa at some stage

    • Who, google?

    • What is this based on? If you meant Amazon shut down Alexa.com that's because they are consolidating their platforms under Amazon. I don't believe there are any plans to "stop Alexa"….whatever that means.

        • The idea of getting people to buy things using voice is a disaster. The idea of buying things with my voice doesn't appeal to me. Apparently, subscriptions and other repetitive purchases are more prevalent in the US than they are here. In my opinion, this revenue model makes no sense when it only takes a few clicks on the Amazon app itself. In spite of owning 6 Echos and dots, I have never purchased anything with them, I just use them to play music and as smart hubs. It won't surprise me if they close this division. However, that will have a negative impact on brand trust. Based on a quick Google search, 100 million Alexa devices were sold in 2018. Imagine all these devices being sold as the future and then being bricked.

          • @danz: They won't stop the service and leave millions of devices stranded, that would be catastrophic for the whole ecosystem e.g. Fire TV, Amazon Prime. They'll just stop R&D and leave the service as it is. They'll also put in ads every time you speak, probably with an ad-free subscription tier.

    • Will it still work as a dumb bluetooth speaker?

  • Got this for free yesterday, when I bought a $179 phone from Noel Leeming (it was under their Daily Deals)

  • Bunnings warehouse new Lynn did eventually honour the price beat special price, but it was iffy due to single day sale comparison.

    • +2

A single day sale comparison shouldn’t matter.
As long as it meets the criteria - namely identical product, in stock and available for same day delivery or collection then it is valid.
Sometimes you’ll find the staff take it personally and kick up a fuss but should be straightforward.
Glad you got it in the end.

Totally agree with you on that, there's heaps of staff in Queenstown who take a price beat or match too persoanlly. They way they act makes it like everything is coming out of their pocket but its like yo you're fronting millon dollar companies calm down bahah.
But I think most are just jealous we did it before them. I've yarned to a few warehouse staff and they always say they get cut when a customer gets a better deal than them but I'm like well use ya brain and the system bahaha

        • I wonder if they've been trained to act that way

          • @Plug: It certainly never used to be when I worked there (a while ago now)
As long as it met the criteria it was always meant to be a simple process for the customer.

Amazon Echo Dot 5-gen vs Echo Dot 4-gen: What are the actual differences?

      https://www.pocket-lint.com/smart-home/buyers-guides/amazon/…

      • Read that exact same article when I posted my comment 😄

I already have the 3rd gen and there doesn’t seem to be much difference (besides shape) between the 3rd & 4th, so thought, ah well, might as well go for the 5th.

Then again, I don’t really need it.

  • Anyone wanting to sell theirs? Missed the detail and now need one. 3rd or 4th gen but for cheap. 😊. Prefer pickup around east/south Auckland as not worth adding shipping cost I guess.
