AirAsia Unlimited Annual Pass US$599 (~NZ$944): Pay Only Applicable Airport Taxes & Fees for Travel @ AirAsia

70

AirAsia is currently offering an annual subscription for unlimited free seats on its network. A subscription costs $944, then you get unlimited flights to Australia for $332.03.
It is even better value if you are planning to travel to any other AirAsia destination.

Essentially subscription covers the seat/fare cost of the ticket and you only pay for fees and taxes (Airport tax, airport fee, fuel surcharge, arrival tax, and border clearance levy).

T&C are here: https://www.airasia.com/superplus/en/gb/faq/super-pre-en-gb

Read more here: https://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/news/300759494/air-asias-flig…

Only 200,000 SUPER+ new subscriptions are available and can be purchased up until December 11, 2022.

I got it this morning. For now, AirAsia is only between Auckland and Sydney [$332 return in fees and taxes]. It is possible to fly from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur and then onwards but not on a single ticket. So you would have to make several bookings and pay fees/taxes for each.

How do I redeem my free flights?

Once you have purchased your SUPER+ subscription, you access your SUPER+ dashboard via the following options: a. The SUPER+ icon on the airasia homepage (Web & Mobile) b. Your account page and the SUPER+ subscription c. The top left icon next to your name

While you are on the SUPER+ dashboard page, to redeem free flights you can follow the steps below

Step 1: Click on the Go button next to Flights
Step 2: Your promo code will be auto-generated, click on Redeem
Step 3: Key in your departure location From, key in your destination location To
Step 4: Key in your departure dates, key in your return dates (if applicable)

Might be cheaper buying from the Australian site. Only A$799 works out to be ~NZ$845.

  • NZ is not on the list of countries - so does that mean you cant get use on the way back to NZ only on the way to Australia and beyond? How does NZ work given its not any flight only selected seats and flights - how do we know there are any to or from NZ ?

    From the site:

Free short haul (4 hours or less) & long haul (4 hours or more) flight seats (AirAsia carrier code: AK, FD, Z2, QZ & D7) with a travel period of 1 year from the date of subscription

    Malaysia
    Thailand
    Philippines
    Indonesia
    Singapore
    Vietnam
    Cambodia
    Myanmar
    Laos
    Brunei
    China (HK/TW/MO)
    Australia
    Japan
    Korea and more

    • and more

I think this is where NZ sits. LOL.

      • -1

Makes you feel special and top of their mind doesnt it . Laos and Brunei gets a mention but no NZ

        • +1

You do realise we're a pokey little country miles from the rest of the world right?

    • We go under Korea and more. Free short haul (4 hours or less) & long haul (4 hours or more) flight seats (AirAsia carrier code: AK, FD, Z2, QZ & D7) with a travel period of 1 year from the date of subscription. NZ flight carrier code is D7.

      • Is there a way to get visibility of how many options are actually available prior to purchase?

Yeah, it's listed on the page.:

          etc

          • @neil: I cant find a similar page for domestic flights, any ideas?

            • @honza: Domestic? As in cities in NZ?

              • @neil: No, internal ASEAN flights, domestic Indonesian, Thai, Malay etc. The taxes and fees on those flights are significantly lower and I spend a good chunk of my year there.

  • Sorry if I’m being thick but does this bring down the price of flights to other Air Asia locations and approximately how much flying needs to be done to say Aus before it’s worth the money?

    • Its hard to work out as without knowing how easy it is to get a flight and what time a year and if your comparing against the cheapest fares on a jetstar or a airnz for example. Either way you still have to pay taxes and the like which to AU is a huge part of the fare - im taking a flight in the NY on Jetstar to the GC - and the Tax component one way is about 150 and the fare itself 60 - so your only really saving the 60 through this - baggage and other fees are also a lot higher than on Jetstar i notice as well which skews it again.

My guess would be just between AU and NZ - probably about 5 or so return flights a year depending on the time. If you managed to snag some cheap flights longhaul then that could help a lot.

    • +1

Yes to other locations. You can look up flights, go to payment page to get breakdown of what is a fare vs taxes. If you have this subscription you only pay for taxed. Appx. 6.5 return trips if you only fly on the cheapest flight through the year, less if you fly on a day with high demand. Even less if you travel around to other countries.

Basically, higher the flight costs on the day, more value this pass has.

So does this allow you to just ride their network globally?

Lots of talk about connections to Australia, but can you do the likes of Auckland to Hanoi (via Sydney and Kuala Lumpur) etc?

    • Yes. But as separate flights. Cannot book as connecting. Good if you are okay with stopovers.

      • Right, so you would have to book each leg as a separate booking journey, and piece your trip together as individual point to point flights.

Which means passing through customs and getting your bags, then re-checking in and passing back through customs for the next leg?

        • That is my understanding.

  • Ok. Whats the catch here?

    • +9

Nobody has a job with this much annual leave :(

      • Could work if your workplace has a "work remotely most of the week" policy, e.g. fly after working gin the office, work at your new destination, fly back in time for your next work in office day. Would kind of work if you only had to be in the office once per week or 100% remote jobs.

    • Snakes on a plane experience

  • Not really worth it if you're just flying to Aussie, 75% of the cost is taxes. Holiday in Asia with multiple destinations, maybe worth it

  • I have purchased the Super+ subscription (USD $599). However, it does not show any price discount although it shows 100% both ways from Auckland to Kualalampur (between 4th of March and 29th of March). Total cost is $1506 including fare + taxes + fuel etc. Tried to communicate via chat. However, that is all automated inhuman AI responses and not answering my concern. Anyone else facing the same problem? The total price does not deduct the fare as per the agreement.

    • Works for me for the right dates. When were you looking at?

      • I was looking between 4th of March, 2023 and return on the 29th of March, 2023. Do you see the price correct (mentioned above) in between the dates?

        • Yeah. You can only buy direct flights with the pass, stopovers are not allowed. So you would have to book 2 tickets at least.

I would recommend taking few days in Sydney. There is a 1h15m connection time in Sydney, too short to risk with AirAsia.

          AKL-SYD-AKL $332 return
          SYD-KUL-SYD $334 return
          Total: $666

          • @autonuke: Thanks. I guess on top of that luggage will have to be re-checked in and I guess 1h 15m will probably will not be enough?

            • @DealmanIronbinger: Yeah. Luggage costs extra, and you would most likely have to collect it and re-check. Unless you somehow convince them to check you all the way through. But that would be unlikely as they don't allow transit bookings.

If you went with carry on, you may be able to transit tho, if online check in is possible. But if the flight is delayed, you would have no rights.

  • A few concerns over on OzBargain
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/743307?page=1

  • I flew Air Asia long haul once. Once.

    Lol it's a shocker.

  • Only good for the frequent traveller without time constraints that dont mind detour and delaya
