There's a monster Jetstar sale in Aus at present with return flights to HNL from around $400 (NZD) from Syd, so I was playing around with dates and seeing if I could find a cheap flight to Sydney, and then on to Hawaii, and back via Sydney or Melbourne for around a grand if I was lucky.

But then I noticed AirNZ. Direct. On a 787 Dreamliner. That's a much better way to travel than via Sydney on Jetstar/Air Asia!

So anyway, here's some examples:

• one way $429
• return $859

edit: Hawaiian Air is also showing up a couple of times a week for around $852 Return

And I can see some hotels at up to 44% off as well in Honolulu, although I've only stayed in hostels there, so can't recommend anything unfortunately.

  Now $807 for the same dates on Air NZ website this morning.

  Really cheap. Add another 60 for luggage, but you probably only need this for one person in your booking.

  Geez, I flew to Hawaii for $450 return back in 2018. I wonder if we'll ever get those type of deals again.

  By coincidence was looking at these exact flights last night,
  adding air nz skycouch is very cheap for these, only $400 total for a couple (each flight)
  Since the return flight is a day flight, then skycouch would only probably be needed on the
  AKL-HNL leg.
