  Last time I saw a beans giveaway at Starbucks I went into my local branch and checked the bags: they were almost expired. It's highly likely that the beans on offer are 10-11 months old at this point and will taste musty and rancid.

    Most of the consumers won’t be able to tell the difference because in their minds they will just think, “If I buy a Venti coffee, I get to bring home a coffee bean bag for free”

    I wish I could tell the difference through the smell of beans… whether it’s fresh or not

      The Starbucks beans from supermarkets doesn't grind down well and the coffee/water doesn't flow through it well.

        Exactly my thoughts. Starbucks is more of a milk tea shop than a coffee shop really. Didn't realise people actually go there for coffee coffee LOL.

          @simch: I often see mums with their SUV's after school treats for the kids.
          Iced coffee is full of sugary syrup and full of ice, once I got a free one (full of ice too so you left wanting more ), tried it , now I see why they are hooked

    It's obvious this promo is for them to clear out unsold stocks due to the prolonged lockdown. You're not paying for anything extra so I wouldn't be super critical about beans being old.
