Amazon AU - good result

Well I used Amazon Au to buy some propellers for the Drone I won, (yeah sorry it wasn't a cheapies comp). Anyway they were ridiculous prices, (and still are on TM), in NZ. Little plastic propellers, which fall off and disappear too damn easily when you're still learning to fly lol. So Amazon Au to the rescue. bought 4x full sets of props, (that's 16 props), for just a tad over $20. Free delivery. They can go for more than 4x that price here. Anyway the delivery track said expect delivery on or around 08-30 March. I shrugged thinking tho the package is just letter size it had been chucked on a slow boat or something. Well surprise - they turned up yesterday. 13 Days after purchase.

Must say I'm pleased with the price and pleased with the delivery time.
I'll be looking at Amazon Au again for sure. Some of the prices on there are better than Nz - others are not.
Interesting.

Hopefully they are able to break TM's monopoly somehow

    • I had no idea TM have monopoly, ever. Came here around 2016, I found their prices always about the same as local prices, and most of time more expensive than foreign stores (AE/Amazon US). Except for some unique or specific 2nd/used items, I never bought anything new from TM. Remember the golden days of Amazon US circa 2010s to 2017. Love you uncle Jeff xD

      • Trust me mate, TM is the monopoly online auction site here. Even on here, many cheapies still like to use TM. No other sites have ever broken their monopoly, the latest casualty was a site named allgoods that has gone bust.

Prices being more expensive is a NZ thing, not just on TM.

        • Yep - I use TradeMe as there is no viable alternative (it is an effective monopoly).

Some people use FB Marketplace, but you are often wasting your time - the percentage of confirmed sales that actually happen is too low, whereas at least on TM I almost never get a failed sale.

In that respect, it does seem to be better than EBay which is quite risky from what I see / hear on OzBargain.

          Alan.

        • Oh you were saying specifically monopoly online auction site. Gotcha. You're right on that specific, came here from ebay AUS when their low listing prices was getting attack from all sides by the emergence of AE/AB. Also too bad TM's push back auction's end time does not sit well with my sniping background.

          • @stevarja: Sellers are paying the fees - they get to call the tune :-)

Another major player would be Costco once they open up we will have some better prices hopefully. Interesting would be the price matching policy.

Yes, Amazon AU has been quite fast in terms of shipping if sold by them. 3rd party can be different. I received couple of items within 3 days and few others within a 7-10 days.

    • Costco are going to open in this locality ?

Opening in Westgate (west auckland) late August 2022.

      • They will also have online portal, just not sure what the plans are initially.

        https://www.costco.co.nz/

  • Amazon has been great. Delivering in stock items to me within 7 days recently

  • Amazon's delivery estimates have been pretty spot on for me so far after maybe 10 or 15 orders. Often a few days earlier. They do mix postage methods though and an number of their sellers ship direct so you generally get a mix of DHL, NZ Post and Australia Post.

If you want to save on credit card currency exchange fees from your bank (usually 2-3%) check out the Wise card https://www.cheapies.nz/node/30857
It's often free, and exchange rates fees are 0.3-0.5% if you top it up in advance using a bank transfer.

Probably not as safe as using your credit card if the package goes missing, but Amazon are pretty generous in this regard too.

    • I paid using my Debit card. It was very simple and I have no idea of what fees might have been involved but it was only about a $20 transaction so it was very minimal if any.

  • will subscribe to bezos prime if it makes amazon come here sooner

If only prices here in NZ a tad bit sane-r. Almost every.single.thing is cheaper on Amazon AU/AE if not for the VAT and postage fee.
