    • TV mode: Place the Nintendo Switch (OLED model) console into the dock to play Nintendo Switch games on the TV. By using the built-in wired LAN port, users can enjoy another way to connect online in TV mode.
    • Tabletop mode: Flip the stand on the back of the console and use the console’s screen to play multiplayer games using the two included Joy-Con controllers right out of the box. The wide adjustable stand makes for a solid and sturdy foundation. It also allows players to freely tilt the console with more range on the viewing angle, so it’s easier to see the screen.
    • Handheld mode: Users can bring the console wherever they go in handheld mode and play local* or online** multiplayer with friends. The 7-inch OLED screen provides vivid colour and high contrast.

This is Joy Con™
The included Joy Con controllers give you total gameplay flexibility. All previously released Joy-Con controllers for Nintendo Switch are compatible with this new model. Additionally, Nintendo Switch (OLED model) is compatible with the full library of Nintendo Switch games.***

  • I've been thinking about getting a switch. Do you think this is better than just getting the regular one or possibly waiting for an update model in the future?
I'm not super up to date with Nintendo news.

    • +3

At this stage, I wouldn't wait for an upgraded version that's more powerful. I have a theory that this was the "Switch Pro" that was rumoured last year, but with the current chip shortages and the rising cost of manufacturing, I think this was all they could produce. From this point, it's unlikely there will be a more powerful Switch that isn't just a whole new console, and that's probably still a few years away.

As for whether to get this one or the regular version, that depends if you think you'll want to play handheld or not. If you think you'll use it in handheld mode then this would be the best one since it has a bigger, brighter screen and much better speakers, but if it's just going to stay docked to the TV you could save some money and get the regular one since there's no difference in performance.

      • +1

The dock has a LAN port on the OLED model so there is some benefit in buying OLED even if you only play docked.

  • +2

If you only play docked, then there isn't a difference. If you don't already own a switch, it's worth it for the better screen and kickstand.

If you want a switch just buy one now. The OLED released a few months ago and there is no newer model that we know of, just rumors as usual. The switch just passed 100 million units sold, it's probably about halfway through it's lifecycle.

  • I’m irrationally tempted to buy one of these just for Mario Kart. I have a last gen Xbox One X that is basically just my media centre (streaming/Plex) and maybe a dozen games, but I never actually game on it.

    Must… resist… temptation…

    • +1

Can people stop buying mario kart, we'll never get MK9 the rate MK8 is still selling 😂

Also, if you want some life for your Xbox check out the gamepass deals, so many games for not much money if you do it right.

  • Good price, I think only the market with 10OFF can near this price. Just don’t know when haha

If youre looking for the normal (non-OLED) switch (and dont mind a random skin on the base), then the following is on special @ Amazon for $419 AUD ~$ 441 NZD delivered

Great info thanks - might just take the plunge. Though very strange that the AC version doesn't actually come with the game haha

    • +1

Hilariously this game themed console doesn't come with the game or the controller adaptor!
