Looking for Recommendation on Microwave

Hi Guys,

My current Sharp microwave just gave up. I need to buy a microwave urgently, please suggest a good one. Haven't looked at microwaves in 5 years so bit out of touch.

Thanks.

Personally, I don't cook with a microwave oven, only for heating left over food, the 34L one from Kmart for $109 looks good.

    • I don't cook either, but need a decent one so that I can not just reheat food, but melt butter, heat consistently etc. Probably with good sensors.

  • Any particular size? I find 32-34 to be good.

    • Yes, 32-34 should be fine. I think 32l is the sweet spot.

  • I love this one..even has a melt butter function or soften butter..tons of other features. For reheat it senses the food and heats it without me needing to set a time

    • Thanks. Might not be able to fit that I think. Atleast there will not be much space left I guess. Will check it out.

  • Anyone know of a microwave that opens to the right? ie hinges on the right side, every one seems to have the hinge on the left.

My one hinges at the bottom and opens downward like an oven (KitchenAid)

      • Our microwave sits up high so that wouldn't work unfortunately.

Turn it upside down then door will open to the right no prob

  • I've never owned a microwave but bit the bullet with this one a couple days ago. Granted smaller than others have mentioned above, but there's only two of us. It was more to fit ion the whole above the oven with reasonable clearance as the larger ones would be a tight fit.

Seems to have plenty of cooking modes to the point where I think the manual will be permanently beside it. I've seen a Whirlpool video on you tube where they cook a whole crispy chicken and leg of lamb.

  • I've got an LG neochef. Works well but I mainly just use it to reheat food or soften butter.

    • Looks like it is discontinued and no stock available.

I have this one and had the smaller 20L at my previous place. No complaints, solid Panasonic build. You could also go for their inverter ones?

    • Our previous microwave was a Panasonic inverter and it was horrible.
I thought the inverter model would be the latest and greatest without the turntable but in reality I found it heated/cooked food unevenly.
Gone back to the turntable model now (basic Samsung model) and it is much better.

      • Generally inverter models are better (lower power consumption, more even heating at low power levels), but I agree you can't go past the turntable for even cooking. Microwaves have had turntables forever for a reason: they work.

      • Agree. Won a $2k+ Panasonic invertor microwave and ended up giving it to family. It just couldn't do the super simple, basic microwave stuff!

  • This one has an air fryer built in if you want an all in one.

Has reviews on the site and also comes in silver.
