True. Its just the usual show by Briscoes, bump up the price and then apply the 40%. Commerce commission being an inert organisation doesn't help much.

    Cafe owner here.

If you are looking at spending this kind of money on a coffee machine I would seriously consider looking at purching a small second hand commercial machine from a reputable seller.
It will be designed to take alot more abuse and im guessing much easier to service.

    • Any machine would you recommend for a non-professional coffee lover? :)

We have a Nuova Simoneli Appia 2, 2 top.

Bspeciciality, our bean supplier helped with the install and servicing

The smaller 1 top version of our machine sells for about 2k I think used

We've had ours for 6 years and its exellent. Has been pretty fairly cheap run.

My main recommendation would be find a reputible seller or reach out to bean suppliers. As well as some will sell machines too.

The big consideration is how it will be connected. Ours is connected to the mains water. And needs a 15amp plug.

I believe there should be some models which come with there own water supply and use a 10amp plug.

Hear hear! Or spend on a good grinder and buy simple manual espresso maker like Delonghi Dedica. I make coffee on a commercial coffee machine installed at work and my humble Dedica at home can get pretty close to the commercial one. It is not great at frothing the milk, as it is a bit slow especially if you like a bit extra milk.. 70% of making a good coffee is about getting the coffee grind correct. It will take many trial and error to get the process close to perfect.

      • Yeah definitely agree re coffee grind. If you do buy a grinder see if you can find some online tutorials on how to adjusts it, correct times quantatity etc.

Humidity and temperture changes will effect any grinder and knowing how to make those adjustments will improve the quality of your coffee.
