All these umbrellas have a shelf life. Ive got one mostly for esthetic purposes, but wow, just after 5 years its disintegrating with multiple splits in the umbrella. Very sad, seldom used. Probably used a handful of times.

  That's a shame. I got one earlier this year and have used it at least a dozen times already (in Wellington) with no issues.

  Weird, mine is older and still in near new condition - yes it's been used thoroughly. I hear good things when you take it to their head office though.
