  • If I'm reading the terms correctly its only handed out if you test drove, bought and have it delivered between 6th July and 30th September 2020?

    • hmm not sure, if that is the case then not a great deal, i read it as those prices are only available between those dates.

      • That's how I read it as well. Has to be a vehicle that was delivered to the dealer between those dates? otherwise a $50 prezzy card for buying a brand new car seems rather scant.

        Definitely could be wrong though.

It isn't really a "test" drive if you have to buy the car to get the $50.

        • Haha so true

    • Pretty sure the 2nd fine print for regarding the delivery is talking about the actual vehicles, not regarding the gift card:

a,b,c,* Offers available at participating MG Dealers for new stock vehicles only, sold and delivered between 6th July and 30th September 2020. While stock lasts. Offers not available to fleet, government or rental buyers, or with any other offers.

The ABC it is referencing is:

      a. $22,990 plus on road costs (and GST) is the price for the MY19 MG ZS Excite model with 1.5L petrol engine.

      b. $25,990 plus on road costs (and GST) is the price for the MY19 Excite Plus model

      c. $28,490 plus on road costs (and GST) is the price for MY19 MG ZS Essence model

      • its a,b,c,*

is includes the "asterix" offer as well

        • The way I read it the asterisk is referencing that the a,b,c options have the condition of "*Offers available at participating […]" regarding stock availability and not regarding the gift card. The gift card fineprint is the one above it in my opinion. If anyone is serious about this offer ring them up before bothering to test drive these below average cars.

Bought the Essence model for my wife earlier this year, got a great deal on an ex display showroom model. Great wee car for the money, high spec and interior/exterior detailing compared to others in the class. Nothing to touch it at this price IMHO.

    • what's the ANCAP rating on it ?

      • 4 stars I believe, the ZS doesn’t have lane assist or adaptive cruise control which brings it down. You have to spend an extra 5-10K to go up to the HS range for those features and the 5 star ANCAP

        • The Haval H2 around the same price seems to have 5 star ANCAP did you consider that. We looking at the Haval would be good to know if you had any feedback on it

    • How did you come across this deal Jed?

And the approx price if you feel comfortable sharing that.

      Cheers.

      • I went into the dealership and asked them about their demo models on the forecourt. Got the top of the range model in red that had been used for a few months as a show vehicle around the upper north island. Had 13K on the clock. Got remainder of 5 year warranty (4.5 years), full service, A few tiny paint chips touched up like new, full groom, new WOF and a few extras thrown in - $29,890 new, got it for $23,500 plus a $3,500 trade in on an old 2004 Nissan Presage so paid $20K flat. Very happy with it.

  • might give it a go, cheers OP

  • How powerful is the 1L engine? The car I've got at the moment is 1.5L and that requires a bit of skill to keep at 100km/h on country roads, especially on hill without revving the shit out of it.

    • its a 1L turbo not NA so not comparable unless yours is 1.5 turbo. plus a modern engine comes with new bells and whistles to improve its performance

    • The 6 speed 1.0LT engine is surprisingly powerful and responsive. Not stunning off the blocks, torque just isn’t there for the weight/output ratio, but it handles itself really respectably in the higher gears. The 6 gears makes handling those hills and country roads at higher speed much more pleasant and less of a struggle for the engine

  • Can someone confirm they got the free $50 prezzy card and didn't have to buy a car lol

    • I can’t confirm but check out this link - https://www.winger.co.nz/deals/mg-zs-test-drive-challenge/

      TLDR;

      TERMS & CONDITIONS
The Test Drive Challenge is a $50 Prezzy Card for each customer who undertakes a test drive in an MG ZS between 6th July and 30th September.

      • Oh no on paper this definitely checks out, but just wondering if someone has actually pulled it off

        • Looks from this to only be available in Hamilton and Wellington - this may be a regional dealership specific matter rather than a brand driven promotion.

There’s also some reference to (paraphrasing) “if you test drive and don’t agree that it’s the best value SUV in its class, we’ll give you a $50 prezzie card” which sounds to me like a bit of a weird hoop to have to jump through…

  • Check some reviews. I wasn't impressed. Faults appear quite often. I'm not just saying that because it is a Chinese-owned company.

    • Faults appear in many things. Hasn’t been our experience so far. A 5 year warranty puts me at ease and the dealership are great to deal with (Subaru, Suzuki, Hyundai, BMW, Maserati etc).

    • You may not say it, but many other people will in reviews. That in it self distorts reality and perception of such. Look at the campaign against Huawei for example
