Family Shield Photoelectric Longlife Smoke Alarm $4.75 each @ Bunnings

110

Available in store or online. Normally $17.98 if I remember correctly (store label still shows normal price but also $4.75 at check out).

Twin Pack of the same model is still $33: https://www.bunnings.co.nz/family-shield-photoelectric-longl…

This price is a steal for longlife smoke alarms, time to stock up or replace for your home or rental properties. I have never seen 10-year longlife alarms at this price, not sure if it is an error so act quickly!

  • Cheaper to replace current than buying new batteries I guess as well. Does anyone have experience of these and do they accidentally go off for no reason at 2 or 3am in the morning or when using a toaster and not burning toast :(

I really wouldn't worry about those reviews.

The Consumer test itself indicates it is an adequate product, this is good enough for me. You would almost find reports of false alarms for every model. The higher number of bad reviews is only probably because this product is a lot more commonly available (bigger customer base) than the other models. Remember, it would be very unlikely for someone to write a good review about a smoke alarm if it just sitting quiet on the ceiling, you simply forget about it.;)

    • Yes true, and they all false alarm from my experience, I have bought many models over the years but I think the false alarms vary across models. For instance my 'Armas' were terrible but the 'Fire Smart' ones I have now seem very stable. I have had only one false alarm in 9 months from 5 installed in da house.

  • I got some of the smaller version of these and don't have any more false alarms than for any other brand I've ever tried.

  • Bought a couple today - worth noting that these already come with batteries installed (which you need to activate by a switch) so you cannot/shouldn't open it up, and therefore it's a use once and then dispose type.

    • I've opened a couple to look inside, the cavius ones just use an odd battery size. $5 replacement and some solder.
