Don't Bother Using The Market Coupons for Good Warehouse Deals - Looks Like They Will Simply Cancel Them

As I mentioned in a post, I wanted to buy the Warehouse Black Friday new version Nintendo Switch+Game for $479.

I was tossing up whether to buy it and something else via the Market with the $50 Market voucher or via the Warehouse using my Warehouse Visa, either of which would effectively make the Switch around $450.

Unfortunately I chose the Market, and the Warehouse have simply cancelled the Switch part of the order (but of course are sending and charging me for the extra item which I only bought because it would be covered by the voucher).

Needless to say the Warehouse price has now gone back up.

The Market support just say that it was cancelled because the Warehouse "wouldn't be able to send it within the timeframe", and that the Warehouse must be out of stock. When I pointed out that I had no problem waiting, and that it was still in stock at the Warehouse (both in local stores and online), they said they aren't the retailer and would "pass on my feedback".

Lets just say that I won't be buying any further items via the Market.

I'm actually contemplating a ComCom complain on The Market, the cancelling of orders are just getting a bit too much. Mine was on a different product, I was first given reason, "unforseen circumstances", when I questioned further, was told it's "unavailable from their inventory location where our orders are sourced from", I don't think that's acceptable. In my opinion, it's "misleading" when a website keeps selling products and then cancelling orders.

    • I think this might be the actual problem - as I mentioned below, the Warehouse is now fulfilling all its internet orders from one dedicated location rather than sending stock from individual stores. Their online "in-stock" notification seems to lag their actual inventory, and they then simply cancel orders rather than getting items in from a different physical branch.

  • I have just found The Market to be incredibly poorly setup. Everything I have ordered (has been fulfilled) but had to chase as it took weeks to deliver, continually palming it off as the responsibility of the downstream retailer. Its just not worth the pain for me anymore.

  • I ordered a phone for a crazy low price using theMarket coupons from Warehouse Stationery more than a week ago, still hasn't been shipped yet! And now seems to be ignoring my emails. Showing plenty of stock online and in-store. Absolutely @#!&# useless.

  • Same here. They selectively cancelled parts of my order. Sometimes leaving just the filler items.

  • This is not acceptable. Genuine errors regarding stock are excusable but as you point out the Switch IS IN STOCK.

    • Precisely. The Warehouse Group is in so much trouble now with ComCom, which is a real shame because it is a local company.

  • Pretty poor customer service - did they at least apply the voucher (or part of it) to the remaining items still charged for?

    • They did, but only partially. I've requested a return as it was worth me buying the $28 item when it had $21 worth of coupon applied to it - not so much when there's only $2.76 worth of coupon applied :)

  • It's been hit and miss for me. I've had some bargain deals delivered, and others get cancelled.

I've got a bunch outstanding from the weekend so will be interesting to see how many they fulfill…

I chatted to a rep and he said they've been having issues managing inventory across systems between retailers and TheMarket.
Hopefully they get it ironed out and don't keep cancelling.

I was at least expecting a discount off my next order or something as an apology for the cancellations, but nope.

Will be interesting to watch how things develop!

  • Another of my orders just got cancelled due "unforeseen circumstances" :(

Maybe I'm just lucky. All smooth sailing so far here. Then they emailed me to say I had won a Ps4 pro fortnite edition. Turned up 2 days later :)It is a new launch so I guess there is going to be initial issues.

  • Yeah all my orders have worked so far - and I won a 43” Veon tv package so guess they are keeping a few of us happy.

  • Sounds like I've had a lucky escape.

I tried registering a few times, but they never send the SMS to verify. I suspect they are using one of the cheapo foreign SMS gateways that don't work with all providers in NZ.

From what you've (collectively) said above, I won't bother trying again.

    Thanks all!

    Alan.

  • Thats interesting I haven't had any issues so far. In saying that I did make a couple of purchases over the weekend but the only goods to arrive so far are from non-Warehouse owned stores. Still waiting on my purchases from the Warehouse and Torpedo7 via theMarket.

This could also be related to the Warehouse now fulfilling all its orders from a single location rather than sending stock from individual stores. I've had a couple of Warehouse internet order cancellations because the item isn't at the online centre even if it is in stock in all their other stores - although that would mean that their online stock count isn't very accurate.
Either that or they realised they would be making no money on the Switch once the coupon was applied so cancelled the order for that reason.

  • a friend ordered an iphone 11 with the $50 off voucher. two days later email came saying out of stock and order cancelled.

the market is a waste of time

  • FYI, the market is owned by the warehouse group….. Ridiculous they can't get inventory right within their own retailer. It is a big time waster taking the time to buy something, crossing things off Christmas list, having them hold your money for days without update and then cancelling. It is not like you can turn the clock back to Black Friday sales to use your money again. And all their support can do is say it is not in their control….

    • Here here, completely agree. Thankfully both my experiences through The Market have been very smooth (not Warehouse though). But I am hesitant buying again knowing what you folk have been through. They need to sort their stuff out or don't bother baiting customers with vouchers when they can't meet orders.

  • Took a week then canceled and left fillins.

    • I'm taking my fill-in item back to a drop-off site on Monday - Market accepted my reason of price-change due to their coupon becoming useless.

      • i think they will accept any reason, i put change of mind for some items, and got a return code immediately. However i returned the items to a market dropoff today and they werent too sure how to process, anyway they figured it out eventually and now i have to wait again for approval from the sorting facility. Its a bit mad but the dropoff can't give your money back or approve the return completely they just receive the items and send on to the sorting facility.

  • Never had an order cancelled myself. I did notice today that The Warehouse had been removed as a merchant on The Market

    • Nah still there, doubt it would get removed, only scenerio if they stuff prices and wanted to pull while fixing

      • Ah i see yeah warehouse online with hardly any items, hmm something not right

        • I have an item in my wishlist from The Warehouse on The Market and it says "This merchant is no longer available."

        • Really weird. The Warehouse have a total of just 110 pretty random items on The Market at present and I'm sure Warehouse Stationery used to be on there too but no more.

  • I ordered something recently, haven't seen any progress for a couple of days. Checked out the item and it shows as "no longer available" in the store, but no updates to my order. I fully expect they'll cancel it eventually, but the whole process appears to be completely (profanity) useless.

    • Yup…this is consistent with many others experience…I just don't get how incredibly inept they are at this. You could reach out to their customer service reps; but expect the response removing any responsibility from them shrug

    • Was the order from TWH as well or another supplier?

Looks like The Warehouse has quietly backed out of The Market, and left behind only a few things on a different store page.

Guess that two conflicting e-commerce models became impossible to manage!

    • I think it was a mistake launching it and hammering the promotion in November/December. They should have done it in March or something to iron out the issues before ramping up for Christmas.

    • I noticed that and posted this on a different thread a couple weeks back. Had items in cart and next day went back and poof, this store is not available. Only Warehouse Online ??

or amazon didn't invade when the gst changes happened..

It's utterly hilarious that they've had to back out of their own marketplace. Seems like they rushed to launch to capture the Christmas period so didn't bother factoring how universal coupons could affect them. I wouldn't be surprised if they wound up selling stuff below cost.
