  • Wow, this is going to be very interesting…LOL :D

  • Do you guys know if they still price match with this deal?

  • JB hifi and pbtech (a free 10000 mah power bank as well) also have the same deal.

  • People still buying Huawei expensive phones? Surprised

the phones a pretty damn good hardware wise, definitely better than s10

people still pay the same money for apple phones worth half their value..

  • Not a bad deal. Problem is have no reason to get 2 and can't be arsed going through the hassle of selling the other and I'm sure there will be a lot for sale on trademe to compete with come tomorrow.

Wonder why they don't the just sell 1 for $550 etc. Which is effectively the same. That would be a very good deal.

    • They make more money selling it their way as the phones are cheap to make.

      • I own a P30 and I'm super happy with it. However, I'd be hardpressed buying P30/P30 pro NOW, given the SoC is already 2 years old.
Huawei are just trying to sell off as many as they can. They cannot manufacture ne SoC based on the ARM architecture for their new flagships.
If you have someone who can buy the other phone, or if you're looking for 2 good phones, go for it.

Kirin 980 is just 1 year old and it's the World's first 7nm mobile processor. It was released Q4 2018.
However, I would wait not because of the one-year-old Soc, but for Mate 30/ 30 Pro which is coming in the next couple of months.

          • @starcub: Will have to wait n see if Huawei are coming up with a new SoC for the Mate 30's like they've been doing over the last 2-3 years.

          • @starcub: The big problem for me was that the bootloader is locked, and the teardrop notch now look dated with pop-up selfie cameras. I'll probably get a Redmi K20 Pro instead.

Also the phone uses very aggressive battery management to get the great battery life, and the Kirin's Mali GPU simply can't compete with the Adreno in gaming.

        • The CPU in p30 isn't even 1 year old yet ( introduced at the end of 2018)
Are you sure you got the right phone.

      • I sort of get that, but NL say they only have 500 available. So what does it matter if they sell 250x2 or 500 x 1 - and if you want 2 , just buy 2. Surely they would sell out for a top end phone for $550 either way

        • I asked in store and its 1000 phones - 500 customers (2 each)

        • Your point is correct with stuff they are going to sell out of.
Perhaps they are so stuck in their way of thinking that all they see is each sale gets rid of 2 phones guaranteed instead of just the potential 1.

        • Apparently it damages a brands image to halve the price on them. Plus mainly looks like they were clearing store stock, as it was only instore and not online. So doing this gets rid of stale stock by not reducing the price IMO. As there were only a few in each store, I wonder how many people actually got this deal? Looks a nice phone, but I think the note 9 deal at 650 last week looked a better one.

          • @nzmax: Noel Leeming queen st Auckland had 15. Were gone by 9 when doors opened but they had counted number of people in line and turned others away.

            • @icekayak: Over 100 listed on Trademe at the moment - most for a profit even taking into account fees.
