  • Got one of these in the pb sale a few months back, and use it every day. Life changing, I think it is. Even wifey uses it constantly(and says thank you after ever use its funny)

Will get these for other rooms.

    • I've had the Echo for quite sometime now. Didn't know the functions before hand but man oh man, I use Spotify on it a lot. And occasionally ask for weather forecast etc. What else do you use it for? Curious

      • I use it to control TV, Hue lights, connect to my phone and play music, control heater with a wifi adapter, morning and night automated routines to play music, weather forecast, news etc. So much uses. It's really worth to buy.

        • Do you need to have like an Amazon Hub or something to connect all of these? Or is it just these Amazon Echo? I'm also curious since I think there needs to be some automation somewhere (probably in the app or some kind of hub).

          • @holypeaches: I only use a Philips Hue hub to connect Philips lights to Echo dot. I think there are some other bulbs like TP Link that can directly connect to Alexa without a hub. Routines and configurations are done through the Alexa app. As an example, you can create routines like:
When I say “Alexa, Good Morning” switch on lights, play news then weather forecast and then a music etc.
            Or
When I say ”Alexa, Good Night”, switch off lights, play a music/ station for 15 minutes.

I have both Echo Dot and Google Home Mini active at my home. I often find Google home is smarter than Alexa but Alexa supports a wide range of devices.

          • @holypeaches: Requires smart devices that has Amazon Alexa support. Then you would just have to set it up through the Alexa app on your phone and install the required skills from the app. All you need is just the Echo + supported devices.

Light Bulbs / Lighting: Philips Hue, Lifx, Xiaomi Yeelight, Tp link etc + a lot of cheap chinese brand smart bulbs
Smart plug adapters: TP link ones are sold in NZ. There are also a lot of chinese branded ones which you can buy overseas.
TV: Smart IR Blaster devices can buy it from a lot of online chinese stores, or some logitech brands in NZ. Pretty much allows you to voice control anything that uses a remote. Can also control tv stuff through amazon fire stick but not sure how well that works in NZ.
Smart Door Locks: Schlage, Yale etc (May require a hub sold seperately)

  • Is this a buy 2 on sale deal?

Or just two at sale price to be over the $100 threshold to use the $20 off deal.

    • The latter. As mentioned in the description, using the coupon code.
