Do people actually buy these sub $50 phones? Can't imagine why they'd do that instead of just spending slightly more and get an Android. Even super budget phones can run Android Go and have access to a number of Go apps.

I did. For the purpose of the occasional digital detox.

But that is still a digital device lol.

Haha at least it keeps me away from social media and using Cheapies too much.

    • Old people who want a simple device with buttons, not bad but you miss syncing numbers and other basic options

      • The problem with this and other dumb phones is that the buttons are too small.

Exactly. At some point, old people would probably want to use Facebook or Whatsapp or some chat related app. Maybe even basic GPS turn by turn. My grandma knew nothing about smartphones and now she's asking questions like, "how can I send this picture to you easily?" - well, you need a smartphone to begin, that's number 1. They'll definitely ask you on how to do XYZ and you can only achieve those with a decent device.

Probably way easier to get an Android with a decent screen size and relatively cheap (maybe only like $60 more compared to the Nokia). You can change the DPI so the buttons / text will be large for them. You can also install minimalist launchers, like Wiser Launcher. Most phones have a kids/senior mode/launcher anyway. You end up spending only once on a decent device that can get updates (either firmware updates or custom ROM updates or app updates).

        But that's just my 2cents.
