  • Is this deal better than the Amex AIRNZ platinum card?

    • Depends on what points you'd use, in Absolute terms the airpoints amex when they have the 400 points at sign up is more 'real money point equivalent' but this is still a good deal if you don't fly much and would prefer vouchers etc

    • Both cards do have quite different features.

The Platinum Edge Credit Card features a return direct Air NZ domestic flight each year, and can be a valuable card to hold if you spend regularly at major supermarkets (highest earn rate in NZ of 3 points per $1) and petrol stations (earn 2 points per $1). plus the 50k bonus points for new card members - the equivalent of 285 Airpoints Dollars, $375 spend at a range of travel agencies or 25,000 frequent flyer points.

The Airpoints Platinum doesn't feature a return flight, rather it allows up to four lounge entries per year and a flat earn of 1 Airpoints Dollar per $59 spent (plus a current bonus of 200 Airpoints Dollars)

So it may depend on your travel needs and spending habits.

  • This card is amazing. I have the Australian version, which sadly offers a $200 travel credit (no free flight) with a higher annual fee. I'm a NZ citizen moving back home in the next few weeks to take up a contract job - do you know if I'd be able to switch to this card and get the bonus points?

    • Hi there, so long as you've not held any other Card product offered by American Express International (NZ), Inc. in the preceding 12 month period, and you're a NZ resident, you're eligible for the offer - just remember, that you need to apply via our exclusive link :)
