That equates to an average of 149 free Big Macs per store

    • big mac for breakfast then?

      • Most definately, or nothing left for lunch hour

  • Anyone having issues opening the app?
I just get "Oops! Looks like something's not working."

    Edit: Working now.

In the comments it says it starts at 12.01am so they'll probably be all claimed by breakfast

    • Late dinner.

      • Midnight snack

        • The 24 hour drive-thrus are going to be very busy.

        • @Avantime: The one I went to wasn't that busy either in store or in the drive through. Maybe 3 cars qued, but my mate who goes more regularly late at night said it isn't unusual. In store there was about 4 people plus a group already eating. Although they did seem to know about the free Big Mac deal and me and my mate got our Big Macs within like 30 seconds or something.

'need to do a complete restart which will take 10-30 minutes and we will do it when we please if you are looking to redeem free big mac'

  • anybody knows which restaurants will participate? thx!

    • Strongly suspect it's any except perhaps for airport ones.

      • The franchisees will probably do their best not to honor the deal. I don't think any of them want to give away free food, especially if it goes viral and they get swamped.

  • They're probably going to give away more than 25k since staff still aren't getting be to click redeem at least in the store I visited. Mind you, I'm not sure how many people know about the trick but I suspect it's enough to mean it'll be a fair few more than 25k.

Edit: Then again, it just occurred to me that perhaps I'm wrong about how the limit works. I was assuming it counts people clicking redeem on the app. But it could easily count staff selecting the deal on their POS system in which case it'll be about right.

  • Just got told it starts at 5am at the queen St Auckland store

    • Maybe show them the Maccas Facebook page and their post stating that the deal starts at midnight?

      • correct Maccas said themselves on facebook.
"McDonald's Mel Mōnōvaî Arāi you'll be able to redeem from 12.01am on Monday 2 July until they've all been claimed"

        • +1

Looking at Facebook, those in Queen Street etc that got told to wait to 5am were lucky as others were told it was 9am in Christchurch. Yet others in different locations were told they had to buy stuff.

  • +1

    5am the deal officially begins

    • Just in time for the World Cup game to finish.

      • Yep got mine already

    • Got mine from Silverstream, good deal, seemed tiny.

      • +1

yeah nah, you have grown bigger instead from all that Maccas :)

    • Got one at noon - surprised they hadn't run out of freebies already

  • Has anyone found a way to redeem a coupon twice on the same phone?

    • +2

have to factory reset the phone.

      • thank you burner phones

        • Just another benefit of getting that Alcatel Pixi deal from a few days ago!

      • +1

So factory resetting works? That would seem to imply it''s just something stored on the phone rather than MAC addresses or other unique identifiers Android devices tend to be generous with.

        • it did for $3 big macs (I reset an old phone to get an extra one).

        • i just did a reset, and it works. Yeah my burner phone is abit old too, so setting everything up again is on the slower side.

        • +1

Interesting. BTW as a word of warning to those who don't know, although the app itself seems to imply the offers don't show up if you've already used them on another account on the same device, this isn't correct. They do show up and you only know it's failing due to a previous use on the device when you try to redeem. (You have to go all the way to confirming the 3 minute warning so if it succeeds you have to be already in store to use it.)

        • @Nil Einne: You always want to make new accounts whenever you can, because you seem to get a few different deals depending on when you first signed up. The new Alcatel Pixi got a different deal (BOGOF Big Mac Combo) than my other 2 phones, which I signed up at the same time.

        • +2

@The Hound: You don't even need a SIM card on the burner phone, just set up at mobile data and a Wifi hotspot on your main phone, and connect your burner phone to it. Keep your main phone in your pocket and redeem with your burner phone.

  • I wonder how long it's going to last now that it's made it to the Herald front page https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&…

Interestingly only half were redeemed whenever the reporter spoke to the McDonalds spokesperson. (Or I guess whenever the spokesperson was last updated.)

  • Offer still valid guys

    • Think it's finally over? Not showing up in an account it was on before.

      • Yup,it finished before 7pm, after that they were advertising big macs for 3$ but that quickly went away. I suspect after work everyone went as there were parents and kids queued when i tried.
