  • Is it just me or is all that extra warranty crap you can pay for an absolute scam? This product should last four years easily and be covered for free under the CGA for that duration.

No its not a scam, its just an added on extra that some people are willing to pay for the convenience. Having the extra warranty just means that itd be an easy process to get ur item repaired or replaced without jumping through a lot of hoops.
CGA covers you for the time that is considered reasonable for the item to last. And the issue that comes is what you think is reasonable may not be what they assume is reasonable. As always, this could end up being a time consuming confrontation with the manager, you could get declined, might have to settle in tribunal. That being said, it could also be an easy process but that may not always be the case.

Some people are willing to pay to remove this hassle. I never pay for this extra warranty but just pointing out why these things exist. I know a few people that pay for the extra warranty because they do not like confrontation and cause a scene out in public.

Nah, it is a scam and they make it difficult to claim under the CGA so that people will buy the extended warranties.

They know what the courts will rule, because every time i take HN or one of the other big box retailers to disputes I always win!

So they know their obligations through losing in disputes so many times!

They just choose not to recognise consumer rights. It is not about difference in opinion about how long products should last.

I feel they are a scam of sorts. All the retailers I have know pretty quickly bend as soon as you mention CGA. Still, thousands of people still get the extended warranty and are not aware they are already covered, usually to a greater extent, under NZ law. There are a very few occasions when an extended warranty covers to a greater extent than CGA (Some may offer a replacement rather than repair for example)But usually they are actually inferior, and don't cover things like freight to return a faulty product, whereas CGA does. Also if you are buying your item for business use the CGA doesn't apply. So you may consider an extended warranty in that case.

      • You're right of course, they rely on people not wanting to assert their rights.

  • The Sonos ONE smart speaker was released in NZ last week. So this is now just the new standard RRP for Sonos Play One. A good deal will be when they start selling twin packs. Sonos is rarely discounted in NZ however.

  • good NZ price but a huge rip off compared to AU or US.
