$2 Shipping @ Sports Direct

130

Recently discovered that UK based sports clothing company Sports Direct has crazy cheap shipping to NZ and Australia. Not sure when this will end, or if this will be the ongoing shipping price. It's much cheaper than the local UK/Europe delivery, so stands out as unusual for sure.

I found this company years ago when visiting the UK. They have many physical stores throughout the UK and Europe and are known for clearing sports apparel at a very low price. With this cheap shipping, it opens their online shopping to New Zealanders to benefit from their low prices.

They're basically the cheap Rebel Sports of England.

I've included the URL to the shipping page, but just navigate around the online store (especially the Outlet clearance pages) and you should be able to find some bargains. Examples would be:

This page of clearance gear
https://nz.sportsdirect.com/flash-sale-seven

Ski jackets
https://nz.sportsdirect.com/nevica-aspen-ski-jacket-mens-403…

This coat for winter:
https://nz.sportsdirect.com/lee-cooper-wool-coat-mens-609776…

etc

The site can be configured to show $NZD, so it makes it easy to get a feel for the prices without having to nut out conversion rates. It has a decent range of sort options too, so you can sort by biggest discount/lowest price etc.

    • Check all the past deals, lots of good bargains. - https://www.cheapies.nz/deals/sportsdirect.com :)

    • Lol they do look pretty bad on that site!

Can only speak for my personal experience, and I've found them fine to deal with.

    • I agree with Jaxon, I've found them fine to deal with in the past. even went out of their way to find me a product not on their site. but that site makes em look pretty bad.

    • I'm from UK and this store has some good items, but also a lot of clothes that shrink in the wash. The tops don't last long. The coats are quite high quality and affordable and they have some good shoes (they own 'Karrimor' which can be good quality). But a lot of polyester used and put together in sweat shops in India act.

      • Have always used SportsDirect during xmas with their free shipping to NZ offer with no issues. The only problem I encountered is if they are using PBT couriers, which is the worst couriers in the whole galaxy.

      • I haven't bought an awful lot from them, so I won't comment on their everyday or fashion tops…

…but I did get some running singlets for about 3 quid each out of a clearance bin in Manchester around 7 years ago. They get a lot of use every year and still going strong, not shredded in the washing machine yet. So once again your mileage may vary. I always wondered whether they were counterfeited or not (Everlast) as they were so cheap, but there you go.

  • CL20 gets you 20% all clothing.

  • Lol, I've used them before and that is the normal shipping price. Got my shoes all good no issues. Even comes with tracking codes and stuff which was around 1.5-2 weeks shipping to NZ from UK. The have been consistently giving codes for 20% off all shoes, clothing etc for quite a few months now.

    • Yeah wasn't necessarily saying was not the normal shipping price, but more I just noticed it was so low and wanted to share with the group.

  • I placed an order last week and made some observations.

I know they still have that CL20 '20% off clothing' discount popup when you use nz.sportsdirect.com, but it also says that code is only valid until May 19th i.e. already expired. The code changed to FW20 for '20% off footwear' on May 20th or 21st.

The popup ad states 'No Exceptions' but I did have a couple of clothing items in my cart that didn't apply the discount. So your mileage may vary with these codes. I think I ordered 7 items (all clothing) and the discount applied to 4 of them.

Finally, when I checked last week the CL20 code was not valid on the UK version of the site. I noted they also don't remove the 20% VAT for non-EU orders. Therefore I'm assuming they just rotate these 20% off codes for non-EU customers, and market them as limited time discounts when really they're pocketing the VAT most of the time.

However, they do have some very good special prices and the shipping is ridiculously cheap, so I still found it very worthwhile placing my order and didn't feel too hard done by :-)

Maybe not removing the VAT is how they're able to afford the cheap shipping? Then again my tracking link mentions something about a container so I think they're combining deliveries and re-shipping locally to make it more affordable.

As an aside, some companies automatically remove the VAT in the cart when you select a non-EU delivery, some don't, and others will refund the difference manually if you contact them after placing an order - so it's worth checking their delivery/shipping FAQ's.

    • You could be right, I shop there in the UK and it all looks about the 20% more than UKin shop prices

      • I looked at the GBP prices through a UK proxy server, then checked the NZ prices, and they were roughly on par with exchange rate. So I don't think the prices shown are any higher than in UK retail.

I just meant that UK retail prices already include 20% VAT which they don't have to charge if selling to non-EU customers. Many companies automatically deduct the VAT in the shopping cart when you select a non-EU shipping destination but I noticed sportsdirect don't.

  • Have bought a range of things over the years from Sport Direct , found to be good value and prompt service and delivery . They do have some really good specials at times . We would continue to buy from them .

  • I placed an order sometime last week or maybe slightly over a week ago. Got the item in the post today, was a bit surprised at how fast the shipping was. Haven't used them before. I'd say my experience was pretty good. Thanks for sharing this deal!

  • Shipping costs seem to be changed today, "New Zealand From $10.01"
