Whats the story with GST/Tax on these types of direct imports? Anyone have any experience using Kogan/Dick Smith for >$300 items and whether you got stung for additional costs when arriving in the country?

  why $300? the limit is $400 including shipping. There's no import tax on anything under $400. Even when its over $400, its a chance thing to get taxed on them. I've received items over $1000 that didn't get charged an import tax. Though if you do pay for something over $400, you should expect to get charged import tax.If you get lucky, you might not get billed. But the rule is, under $400 you are safe.
