  • Down side seems to be it lacks in features such as apps / wifi capabilities. Otherwise the price seems to be decent for a 4k display. Not sure how the picture quality is though but it cant be that bad as it does emphasize that its running a samsung panel xD. If you need internet/apps would probably have to dish out another $100 to get something like a chromecast ultra so probably have to add that price in if your trying to compare prices with other tvs too.

A good spot quebec for us "choice cheapiees" 😊thanx for doing the posting.

Those who get the Kogan/Dicksmith NZ update emails saw this earlier this morning - my thoughts :

    • The pricing point only is very good, taking into account the limited range offered in New Zealand of larger screen size lower end non brand 4k t.v's. (as compared to the strangely MUCH larger range and better pricing at Kogan and Dicksmith Australia. Dear Mr Kogan why are kiwi shoppers recieving a much more limited range and higher pricing….!!! ????).

    • However it is not their "smart" t.v technology version of the 55" t.v's, and as per the few reviews on the DS NZ web page, don't be surprised that the picture quality can not match some of the full feature big branded 4k t.vs. (yeah ' they state its a samsung screen panel that is built in, but the proof of any t.v is the technical and visual picture quality capability in practice, not theory ;).

    • Ok, heres a usefull tip spot of a possible mutch better alternative: LG has a quiet little factory outlet/repaier in Mission Bay, Auckland - who sometimes lists on trademe late model LG "smart" 4K 49" and 55" models, with much better specs and features, but only 1 year warranty mind you. Im presuming the guy who runs the store lets enquiry customers like yourself actually SEE the picture of the t.v before you bid or auction offer buy it. They have recently sold on trademe a few of those 55" models for $800, and the 49" for $699, if i recall all the details here correctly.

The link to their trademe listings is:

Happy hunting to catch your bargain folks…..

  • Interesting. They now include GST/Duty in their pricing. Edited the title a couple of times to reflect that. Shipping cost seems flat rate.

  • No consumer guarantee cover on this, being an international purchase?

If you are planning on feeding it with smarts externally, and running sound through a receiver/external speakers, then you're really only buying for the picture.

  • Hi Jaxson.

No please I didnt intend to confuse folks: this Dicksmith t.v offer is from the New Zealand branch of DS, and so will have full New Zealand consumer protection coverage under NZ regs. Etc. (Im not sure what the terms of DS New Zealand warranty are - look it up. And one presumes that DS NZ are supplying buyers with the stock thats in NZ now, but could be wrong. It doesnt ither way, as I said its offered - sold by DS NZ and so your covered.

    • Interesting. Where did you find that out? What are their NZBN and GST Numbers? Any ideas? I was under the impression they had the Aussie entity and the HK entity, but an NZ one would be helpful too.

  • They didn't mention if it support HDCP2.2 on website and user manuals.

Hi all. Sorry Ive got this one somewhat wrong, and Shaw and Jaxson are largely correct !. Warning - this offer by these …….. is highly deceptive as a small clause is appearing as you go through the chart - purchase which says like " custom and gst charges may apply apon importation". Im assuming that the innocent buyer will get shafted with the Nz customs charges, which my rough calculation says will apply as the total purchase price including shipping, is over the nz import gst/duty threshold level.

Its funny (not) but Kogan seems to have been portraying Dicksmith NZ as a seperate operation to the main Australian setup. But Shaw you sound right in saying its just a front, and the only major DS distribution centres are located in Aus/Hk/usa etc, not NZ.

Is this deceptive conduct or what…..?.

I think there may be more to it than that even.

I am guessing that Kogan is now providing the GST service directly, as Amazon do, rather than through Customs once the shipment has landed. My reason for believing this is due to the quoting of the GST included amount on the checkout page:

      Total $608.00 GST Included $79.30

This wasn't always the case, but may have been brought on by the changes to Aus GST.

  • Yep my friend I agree, thats almost certainly a correct conclusion about a sneaky manadatory GST collection in the upfront DS NZ buyers payment. Despite it being apparently a direct import into NZ. OMG, the story is getting worse by the minute…..

    • Ha yea, as long as there are no hidden charges, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Kogan is a pretty shady company, but haven't had any issues with them in NZ as of yet.

Bottom line is a company has purchased the Dick Smith name and mailing list.
Personally, for that money I'd wait for a warehouse equivalent.

    • Yea, that Veon 3 year warranty is nice too.
